33. How did that happen? One minute you’re 16 thinking you know it all and wanting so desperately to be an adult. And the next you’re 33 wondering how you got to be an adult when you still feel just 16 in your head.
Once again, the year has flown by and my birthday has crept up. It doesn’t seem like 12 months has passed since my last birthday. But so much has changed in the last year. I know I’ve said this before but my thirties feel very different from my twenties. I’m a lot happier and more confident in myself now that I’m well and truly settled into that thirties age bracket.
Life is just that little bit easier, when you feel like everything you’ve worked hard for is starting to fall into place. My twenties felt a little chaotic at times. I felt my career had no direction. My relationships were all over the place. And I never had any confidence in myself or my abilities. But my thirties feel good. My thirties feel like I finally have my shizz together. My relationships are still a little all over the place, but I’m in a much better place in myself to deal with everything life and love throws at me.
So how am I spending the big day? Well, I’ve spoken about this before, but I’m really not a big lover of having my birthday so close to Christmas. On the one hand, Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year, so it’s nice to have even more reasons to celebrate – as if I needed anymore. But on the other hand, it’s always impossible trying to organise anything.
So many people have their Christmas parties, and festive plans, that I normally end up keeping my birthday low key. And this year is no exception. I plan on spending the day eating more food than is necessary and spending it with my family and friends. And I’m more than happy with that.
