5 reasons to visit Windsor

Macdonald Hotel Windsor

Happy hump day everyone! Now as you may have seen. I spent the Easter Weekend in the rather delightful town that is Windsor. And what a truly delightful place it was. If you want to find out more about the amazing Macdonald Hotel I stayed in, you can read more about it here. But if you want to find out what makes Windsor so amazing, then here are 5 reasons why you need to visit this year.

Royalty

Windsor has been connected to the Royal Family since way back in 1070 when William the Conqueror decided it was a rather nice place to go hunting. It’s now where Her Majesty The Queen calls home. It’s the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. And has been in royal hands for more than 1,000 years. And you really can’t miss is when you visit Windsor.

Visit Windsor Great Park

This Royal Park is home to a 600 strong deer herd and there’s a huge 5,000 acres you can explore. With formal gardens, grassland and ancient oaks in the famous forests. There’s plenty of space for a picnic or two. Plus you can take the Long Walk up to the Golden Horse and back again for some great views of the Estate.

Visit Eton College

Now this is probably the most famous school in the world. And probably one of the oldest as well. It was founded back in 1440 by Henry VI. And with famous Old Etonians including the Princes, David Cameron and Boris Johnson. It’s certainly produced some interested characters over the years. It’s also only a short walk over the river and well worth a visit.

Hit the shops

Now I don’t need many excuses to hit the shops. And no excuses are needed with this beautiful shopping destination. The Windsor Royal Shopping centre is in a converted Grade II listed Victorian Railway Station. And it sill includes many of the original fixtures and fittings. Plus with more than 40 stores including Links, Space NK and Jo Malone. You can certainly spend a lot of time and money here! Oh and keep an eye out for the Crooked House of Windsor. It’s been around since 1592 and still standing. Just a little wonky.

Take a walk down the Thames

Seeing as Windsor is on the river, it would be rude not to take a stroll down the Thames wouldn’t it? You can watch the swans glide past or you can see the exertion of the rowers on the water. Or you can just find a bench and watch the world go by.

Whatever reason you pick, Windsor is well worth a visit. I’m already planning my next trip back to this beautiful place.
