Easy ways to save money right now

Easy ways to save money right now

Now I don’t know about you. But one of the biggest things that the past couple of months have taught me. Is the importance of a savings account. No-one could have predicted the impact that this global pandemic would have on our finances. But one thing is for sure. And that’s the need to have a good stash of savings to help tide you through whatever life throws at you. So if like me you’re looking at ways to build up your savings. Here are some easy ways to save money right now.

STOP PAYING UNNECESSARY INTEREST

If you have a credit card that you’re paying interest on the balance. Then see if you can transfer it to a 0% balance credit card to avoid paying interested for a fixed time. Some cards do come with a small balance transfer fee so make sure you do the maths beforehand to check it’s worth it.

SWITCH SUPPLIER

One of the easiest ways to save money is to see if you can make any savings by switching supplier. I recently did this by switching from E.ON to Bulb and I’ve saved myself over £220 for the year! It’s also incredibly easy to do. You can use my link and get £50 for switching your gas and electricity to Bulb. Or grab your utility bills and log onto a comparison site like uSwitch or Moneysupermarket and see how much you can save.

RESIST THE URGE TO SPLURGE ON PAYDAY

I know how tempting it is to blow your monthly budget on payday. Believe me I’ve been there, done it and have various t-shirts to prove it. So learn from my expensive mistakes and ensure that all your direct debits and savings have been paid or moved out of your account before you let yourself loose on Amazon. And if it helps, set yourself a ‘fun money’ budget. This is money you can afford to spend on whatever you want.

PLAN YOUR MEALS

I find this one is such an easy way to save money and also limit any food waste. It’s honestly shocking how money I can waste by buying food that I don’t need or won’t eat before it expires. I start by checking what I already have in my cupboards and freezer and then make a list of what I plan on eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And then a list of what I actually to buy. It is hard with all the ‘tempting’ offers in the supermarkets but sticking to your list will save you money and limit any food waste.

GET CASHBACK

If you do need to buy something than make sure it’s through a cashback site so you can earn money back. TopCashback back have literally hundreds of retailers on their site and it’s so easy to use. Just search for the retailer you want to use and click through to buy (rather than heading directly to their site). If you combine this with other deals on utilities and insurance then you can net bigger cashback gain!
