Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a great reader. Don’t get me wrong I used to be. As a child, I would spend days getting lost in my favourite books. And even now on holiday, I can normally polish off a book a day. But in real life. When there is work, a social life and general adulting to get done. Well, then I never seem to find the time to actually read anything more than an Instagram caption. Which is pretty pathetic. And one of the main reasons why I’ve been trying to read more. It helps, that there are some amazing books that have launched recently which is why I wanted to share with you all four books I’ve fallen in love with this month.
BUSY PHILIPPS | THIS WILL ONLY HURT A LITTLE
If you don’t follow Busy already on Instagram then you need to. Her Insta stories are sweet and hilarious and the book is an extension of that. It’s compiled of essays from Busy about various points in her life. From her Hollywood to motherhood, Busy covers it all in her refreshing and funny way. I couldn’t put the book down and if I’m honest, it made me fall in love with her a little bit more.
LILY ALLEN | MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
Now I have to admit, I wasn’t prepared to love this book as much as I did. I know she can be misrepresented in the media, but after hearing all the stories about her book in the press I wanted to give it a read myself. And I’m glad I did. I found myself relating a lot to her. Far more than I imagined I would. After all, what would Lily and I have in common? Well, it turns out a lot! I really loved this book, not only because it made me see a different side to her. But also because it made me realise what a tough time she gets from the media.
LAURA JANE WILLIAMS | BECOMING
I only discovered this book, by discovering Laura on Instagram. Not only are her stories thoughtful, interesting and hilarious. But she just comes across like she could be your best friend. Her book is exactly the same and relatable on so many levels. As someone who was dumped by the guy, they thought they were going to marry, Laura’s book tells the story of her journey to self-discovery, with some hilarious tales to tell along the way.
ADAM KAY | THIS IS GOING TO HURT
Now, I’ll admit I’m late to the party with this book. But having seen the cover EVERYWHERE. I finally decided to download it and read it. And I have to say this book had me constantly laughing out loud. Chronicling his life as a Doctor, Adam’s insight into the NHS is both hilarious and heartbreaking. There are some almost unbelievable situations that Adam found himself in before deciding to hang up his stethoscope. And thanks to him and the book, I now have a new found respect and appreciation for the NHS.
