I don’t know about you, but one of the things I absolutely love is travelling and staying in hotels. I love the whole hotel experience and the excitement of seeing what the room and the bathroom will look like. I’m not sure if I’m alone in that. But this past weekend I took a little trip to York stayed in an absolute beautiful hotel. So let me give you a little Hotel Principal York review.
I’ve been to York a few times now for both day trips and weekends away and have previously stayed in The Grand. This was my first time staying at the Principal and it did not disappoint. It’s a beautiful building that blends the grandeur of late-Victorian architecture with the comforts of modern travel for the perfect mix.
One of the first things to mention about the hotel, is how close it is to the train station, it’s literally next door. So if you’re travelling up by train, this is the perfect hotel to stay in. Although it is next door to the station I didn’t find it noisy at all. Plus it’s also incredibly close to the town, with all the main attractions, shops and food places just a short 10 minutes walk away.
Now let’s get to the good stuff, the room. I was booked into a premier room which was absolutely huge! If you follow me on TikTok (shameless plug) you can see my hotel room tour video. Not only was the room huge, but the bed has to be one of the biggest beds I’ve ever slept in. Along with a giant bed, there was also two wardrobes, two huge windows which overlooked the front of the hotel. A TV, a table (which had a vanity mirror in) and two chairs.
Next was the bathroom, and this did not disappoint either. I would have liked a bath. That’s just personal preference, and I think some premier rooms do come with baths. I’m not sure when I would have had the time to have a bath, so the shower was ideal. The vanity was a good size, with plenty of space for my makeup and skincare. The only ting I would have liked is a separate mirror to do my makeup in. The vanity station in the room had terrible lighting once it was dark. And the mirror felt too far away in the bathroom to do my makeup. But it’s a minor thing and doesn’t take away from how lovely the room was.
I had breakfast as part of my booking, which is in the restaurant. You had to prebook a time, which I quite liked. The selection was huge, you can order specific food, for instance poach egg on toast. Or you can go up to the hot or cold buffet and help yourself. There was a big selection of hot and cold food, as well as a separate gluten free section.
There is a spa and pool facility at the hotel, which I didn’t use, so can’t comment on. But the hotel is huge, with many conference rooms but also a huge garden room. Which I found was a lovely place to sit and relax and kill some time while waiting for a train. Overall I had an amazing stay and can’t wait to book my next trip back to York.
So there you have it, my Hotel Principal York review. Have you ever been to York before?
