I love to paint my nails, but there’s nothing worse than the polish chipping within a day or two. And seeing as I don’t have the time, or patience, to paint them every few days I’ve been searching for ways to make my polish last longer. So here are my top five tips on how to make your nail polish last longer.
Clean your nails
Now you may think your nails are already clean, but it always helps to use a cotton bud and wipe down your nails with a little white vinegar before applying your basecoat. This helps to remove any product that’s built up on your nails and the natural oils on your nail beds as these can create a barrier between the polish.
Paint your nails not your cuticles
If you get polish on your cuticles, then the polish could lift from the nail which will lead to chipping. So instead make sure you push you cuticles back before you start to apply your basecoat.
All about that bass(coat)
I find a sticky basecoat makes the polish last longer, and for me I love using the Essie All In One Base which is incredibly sticky.
Extra bass(coat)
As the tips of my nails usually chip first, I tend to apply another layer of basecoat to the tips of my nails for extra protection against chips.
Topcoat
To stop my nails chipping I apply another layer of topcoat every two to three days. By doing this I’ve found my manicure can last SO much longer. Plus it keeps the nails looking shiny.
