Preparing for my first solo trip abroad

Now I don’t know about you, but I’m all for fulfilling your goals and ticking those destinations off your bucket list. And today I fulfil one of mine. I’m heading to Las Vegas. On my own! Even as I write this, it doesn’t seem real. So seeing as I’m heading off on my dream trip on my own, let me share with you all how I’m preparing for my first solo trip abroad.

Now I’ve travelled abroad before, but I’ve never taken a holiday like this on my own before. I’ve had a weekend in Europe on the back of a work trip. And I’ve had my little London staycation but a week abroad on my own? Well this will be new. So what am I doing to prepare for this milestone?

MAKING A PLAN

Now seeing as I’m heading abroad on my own, I don’t really have the luxury of going with someone else and getting to decide together what we should do. So to make sure I actually do something everyday, rather than sitting round the pool all day everyday. I’ve created a little day by day plan. Now obviously, plans can change and there’s nothing wrong with choosing to sit around the pool all day. But I know for me, I like having a plan and a little direction for the day.

DOWNLOAD PODCASTS AND BOOKS FOR ENTERTAINMENT

I plan on heading out to enjoy dinners and a drink or two on my own most evenings, so having podcasts downloaded and books on my phone will help make me feel less awkward at being on my own. Obviously there is nothing wrong with eating on your own. But for some, myself included, it’s something I really need to build my confidence in. I know no-one will really be looking or will notice or judge. But it’s nice to have that distraction while you’re eating.

BUY SPRAY SPF

Now this might seem a little silly to some. But honestly, buying spray SPF is a game changer when you’re on your own. You’ll be able to tan your back without burning! It’s such a small thing, but when you don’t have the luxury of a friend to apply SPF to those places you can’t reach, it’s a lifesaver!

So this is how I’ve been preparing for my first solo trip aboard. I hope these tips help anyone else preparing for their solo trips!
