So today is my birthday. I turn 30. And honestly I’m quite excited about it. While my 20’s have been great, they’ve also been an emotional roller coaster. There have been some amazing times, like graduating from University, building and growing my blog and travelling to Thailand and Mexico. But there has also been plenty of not so great times. I’ve had my heart broken more times than I’d like to admit and haven’t quite got all my shizz worked out yet. But that’s life isn’t it? It’s full of up and downs. I’m just hoping that I’ll feel more settled, confident and that my shizz is together during my 30’s. It really is going to be an exciting decade. I’m hoping it’ll be decade I can put down roots in a place of my own. Feel more confident in myself. Continue to build my blog and live a healthier, happier life. It could also be the decade I get married in and start a family. But who knows?
But looking back on the 29 years I’ve been alive for, here are 29 life lessons I learnt in my 20’s :
- Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary
- Find things you truly enjoy instead of things that just fill time
- You’ve done more than you think you have. Don’t focus on what you have yet to accomplish, but try to see your accomplishments from someone else’s point of view
- There’s never a perfect time to start anything. Instead of waiting for that perfect moment that won’t come, make the most of the moment you’re in
- Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you can’t change the outcome or situation, then just accept it and move on
- Never underestimate yourself. You’ll always be your biggest critic but you are capable of so much more than you think
- Not everyone will like you or needs to…and that’s OK
- Stop worrying about the destination and just enjoy the journey. We don’t know where we will be a year from now, let alone 10 years, so stop trying to control everything
- I don’t know what it means to actually feel like an adult. I’m still waiting for that one
- Be un-apologetically you – be honest about who you are and what you enjoy in life and never apologise for who you are
- Don’t expect life to follow your plan
- Make YOU a priority. You need to look after number one as no-one else will
- Cut the negative thoughts and self-doubt. You can achieve whatever you want if you put your mind to it and believe in yourself
- Despite what some people might say no one actually has life all figured out
- Don’t take yourself too seriously
- Get off technology and talk to people in person.
- Be nice to everyone. You never know the struggles they are going through, just as they don’t know yours
- Remember to always look on the bright side of every situation
- Quality over quantity – applies to pretty much every aspect of life
- Money doesn’t buy you happiness. It gives you choices, but not happiness
- Find a fitness routine that works and stick to it
- Realise you are always loved, even when you think you’re not
- Reach out to those that you care about, even if you’ve lost touch
- You’re never given more than you can handle
- Experiences are far more valuable than possessions
- Don’t be too proud to ask for help
- Stop comparing yourself to others. You’re only in competition with yourself as we each have our own journey to take
- Take care of your mental health too – it’s just as important as your physical health
- Your self worth is not defined by how many followers you have. Having a lot of followers or engagement doesn’t equate to being a nice person, nor does it mean you are happy
