29 life lessons I’ve learnt in my 20’s

29 life lessons I've learnt in my 20's

So today is my birthday. I turn 30. And honestly I’m quite excited about it. While my 20’s have been great, they’ve also been an emotional roller coaster. There have been some amazing times, like graduating from University, building and growing my blog and travelling to Thailand and Mexico. But there has also been plenty of not so great times. I’ve had my heart broken more times than I’d like to admit and haven’t quite got all my shizz worked out yet. But that’s life isn’t it? It’s full of up and downs. I’m just hoping that I’ll feel more settled, confident and that my shizz is together during my 30’s. It really is going to be an exciting decade. I’m hoping it’ll be decade I can put down roots in a place of my own. Feel more confident in myself. Continue to build my blog and live a healthier, happier life. It could also be the decade I get married in and start a family. But who knows?

But looking back on the 29 years I’ve been alive for, here are 29 life lessons I learnt in my 20’s :

  1. Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary
  2. Find things you truly enjoy instead of things that just fill time
  3. You’ve done more than you think you have. Don’t focus on what you have yet to accomplish, but try to see your accomplishments from someone else’s point of view
  4. There’s never a perfect time to start anything. Instead of waiting for that perfect moment that won’t come, make the most of the moment you’re in
  5. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you can’t change the outcome or situation, then just accept it and move on
  6. Never underestimate yourself. You’ll always be your biggest critic but you are capable of so much more than you think
  7. Not everyone will like you or needs to…and that’s OK
  8. Stop worrying about the destination and just enjoy the journey. We don’t know where we will be a year from now, let alone 10 years, so stop trying to control everything
  9. I don’t know what it means to actually feel like an adult. I’m still waiting for that one
  10. Be un-apologetically you – be honest about who you are and what you enjoy in life and never apologise for who you are
  11. Don’t expect life to follow your plan
  12. Make YOU a priority. You need to look after number one as no-one else will
  13. Cut the negative thoughts and self-doubt. You can achieve whatever you want if you put your mind to it and believe in yourself
  14. Despite what some people might say no one actually has life all figured out
  15. Don’t take yourself too seriously
  16. Get off technology and talk to people in person.
  17. Be nice to everyone. You never know the struggles they are going through, just as they don’t know yours
  18. Remember to always look on the bright side of every situation
  19. Quality over quantity – applies to pretty much every aspect of life
  20. Money doesn’t buy you happiness. It gives you choices, but not happiness
  21. Find a fitness routine that works and stick to it
  22. Realise you are always loved, even when you think you’re not
  23. Reach out to those that you care about, even if you’ve lost touch
  24. You’re never given more than you can handle
  25. Experiences are far more valuable than possessions
  26. Don’t be too proud to ask for help
  27. Stop comparing yourself to others. You’re only in competition with yourself as we each have our own journey to take
  28. Take care of your mental health too – it’s just as important as your physical health
  29. Your self worth is not defined by how many followers you have. Having a lot of followers or engagement doesn’t equate to being a nice person, nor does it mean you are happy

What life lessons have you learned?

Happy Birthday! I always say that turning 30 was the best thing I ever did! I love it…although turning 36 in a month’s time is actually a little more terrifying! Not because I think I am getting old and that worries me but more that it just seems SO quick! Be careful – you think time moves fast now (and I know you do when you do your fave videos!) it will be over in a blink of an eye! Enjoy every minute of your 30th year – I know I did! x

These are all wonderful and can be applied to life at any age. This year definitely tested me with a few from your list and some things I’ve learned this year are: letting go is an ongoing act: we never really truly master it, self-less love is not easy but there will always more love to give, and that we really do not have to tackle the big things we can’t handle because we can always give it up to the Divine.

Wishing you a wonderful birthday. I hope you enjoyed you day and cheers to surviving your 20’s 🙂
May your 30’s be filled with wisdom, adventure, great health, even better sex, and peace of mind covering it all.

    Much love,
    KatrinaJeanCarter

Some amazing tips that I constantly tell myself but forget to follow such as worrying about the future or not doing what I want enjoy most and getting bored. That was the main reason I’m bloggging though! x

Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you can’t change the outcome or situation, then just accept it and move on – this has to be my favourite and something I am trying so hard to do for myself as I stress over everything and there is no need too
