Things to consider before splashing out on a designer bag

Designer Bag

Regular readers of this blog, or those who know me in real life, will know of my love for designer bags. Ever since my first big investment bag purchase back in 2010 (my beloved plum colour Mulberry Bayswater). I’ve been hooked on adding to my collection. Maybe it’s because the bags are just so beautiful. Or maybe it’s because it doesn’t matter if you’re having a fat day. A luxury bag will always make you look and feel fabulous. But I’m not ready to stop adding to my designer bag collection yet. And while I appreciate they’re not for everyone. They can be hugely expensive and can seem frivolous to some. If you are thinking of making an investment and splashing out on a designer bag. Here are some of the things I think are important to consider before handing over your hard-earned cash.

Designer bag

Make sure it’s within your budget

It goes without saying that buying a designer bag will be expensive. But it should also go without saying that you need to decide what your budget is beforehand and stick to it. No handbag is worth getting into debt for. Because what’s the point of having a beautiful bag on your arm if you can’t afford to leave your house for the next six months? Personally I find having a separate savings account dedicated to my next bag purchase. Helps with keeping my focused and stops me spending the money impulsively.

Designer Bags

Bag yourself a classic

Some bags will stand the test of time. These are the key ones to invest in, as they’re never go out of style. And some will even go up in value over the years. When you’re looking to invest in a designer bag, it’s important to think about the colour and the style. And how long you want to keep it for. While it may be on trend to pick up that beautiful blush pink Chloe Nile bag now. Within a couple of years it’ll look quite dated. But if you only plan on keeping it for a short period of time, it might be worth the investment.

Designer Bag

Find something you love

And I think the final piece of advice I can give. Is it buy a designer bag that you love. Because if you love something enough, then it definitely need to be in your wardrobe right? I still absolutely adore my plum coloured Mulberry Bayswater. And it still makes me smile and feel fabulous every time I use it. granted it’s looked a little tired now. That’s what seven years of constant use will do. But I still love it. And to me, that’s a sign of a good investment!

Are you as designer bag mad as me? What do you consider before you make a big investment?

As always thank you to Kaye for taking the pictures!

I am a big believer in buying a good bag, because they are always worth the money you spend on them. I am so very fussy when it comes to chosing bags in the first place, and then I need them to be what I want, sometimes functionality, sometimes the right look. I can be a nightmare when chosing. So I don’t mind saving up and paying more for not only what I want, but the quality too.
