Now I don’t know about you, but I feel like I actually save money when I go on holiday. Obviously, the cost of the holiday and the spending money need to be accounted for, but that’s usually done months before I actually leave. So when I am away, I find I spend hardly any money. Which is exactly how I wanted my September to be! So here’s my September spending diary.
Week one 1st – 5th September £1,481.99
As per usual, the start of the month was expensive. The usual bills went out including £635 on my mortgage, £127 for council tax, £28.15 for broadband, £74.72 on utilities, £243.03 for my car, £22.99 for the mortgage insurance. As well as £100 in my investment account, £86 to MoneyBox, £9.99 for Netflix, £8 on parking, £4.80 on Tube far, £55 on getting my brows and lashes done, £85 for my Fit to Fly PCR. And then £29.31 on my Uber to take me to the airport.
Week two 6th – 12th September £424.40
This week was relatively quiet in Portugal although the food was a big expense with £21.70 and £102 being spent on two separate dinners. £82 went to MoneyBox, I spent ££95.90 on a train ticket to Scotland for a show that is now cancelled. And then £54.80 in Sephora in Portugal and £68 on my day two covid test for when I’m back home.
Week three 13th – 19th September £328.76
The biggest expense again this week in Portugal is on dinner. With £142 being spent on my final night there. £91 went to MoneyBox, £10.98 was spent on earrings, £27.49 on new skincare, £25 on an Antigen test to leave the country, and then my Uber home from the airport was £32.29.
Week four 20th – 26th September £532.56
I’m back in England this week and don’t I know it! £77 to MoneyBox, £27 on nails, £177 for my train ticket, £49.50 on sandals for my next trip. Plus £65 on new trainers and the usual £24 parking and £14.40 Tube fare. £23.89 on candles on diffusers in Aldi, £23.38 in Waitrose, £14.65 on Marks and Spencer and £36.84 on drinks in the ham Yard Hotel.
Week five 27th – 30th September £322.39
The final week and it started with £73 going to MoneyBox, £15.50 in Marks and Spencer, and £14.50 in Tesco. £103.99 on new bedside table lamps, £77 on two handbag liners. Plus the usual £24 parking and £14.40 Tube fare.
Total = £3,090.10
So that’s my September spending diary. As usual, I probably could have spent less than I needed to. But Portugal was a blast and it was covered by 500 Euros I’d put away earlier in the year. I just need to rein in retail therapy. I’m away again next month for a week (although with work). So next month should be good money-wise.
