10 things I’ve learnt since becoming a beauty blogger

10 things I've learnt since becoming a beauty blogger

I’ve been blogging about beauty now for almost two years, and I’ve learnt a lot over that time. Everything from how to improve my photography and add social media icons to a blog to how to stay organised and what to look for in a good mascara. Which is why I wanted to share with you the 10 things I’ve learnt since becoming a beauty blogger. So here we go:

  1. Blogging is all consuming. I never thought I’d find a hobby that would take over my life in the way blogging has done. It really is what I spend most of my time thinking about, from content ideas to working out to photograph a product.
  2. There is no limit with blogging. What I mean is that anyone can write a blog, and you can write about anything you want when you have one. Although I mainly stick to beauty and fashion related posts. I also like the freedom of being able to through in a food, lifestyle or travel post in the mix as well
  3. I need to find better adjectives. There are only so many products that you can describe as ‘amazing, lovely, stunning’ before it starts to get old and boring
  4. Absolutely anything can be ‘for the blog’. I’ve justified almost every purchase as ‘for the blog’. From makeup and clothing, to weekends away and holidays. In fact a lot of things are brought ‘for the blog’, ahem….
  5. I’m always learning. From video editing, to photography tips to website design. Everyday I seem to be learning something new about blogging and how I can improve what I’m doing. I honestly look back at my first few blog posts and cringe
  6. You don’t need tons of money and the latest technology to blog. I’ve gotten this far without buying the best laptop, products or cameras and never felt that I couldn’t blog because I’m not editing on a MacBook or reviewing the latest Chanel beauty offering
  7. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to blog. Your blog is as unique as you are, so keep it that way. If you want to blog once a week then do it. If you want to take all your pictures outside, then do it. There is no ‘blogger mould’ that you need to fit into, so find your own way in your own lane
  8. Blogging inspiration will come and go. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve sat down at my laptop and had zero inspiration for the blog. It happens to everyone and that’s why it’s sometimes necessary to take little blogging breaks
  9. You will put yourself under immense pressure to blog. I’ve stayed up late, cancelled plans and locked myself away for weekends at a time because I needed to get stuff done for the blog. Not because anyone asked me to, not because I was getting paid for it, but because I felt I needed to.
  10. Blogging is the best thing I’ve ever done. I started this blog to have a small space that I could use as a creative outlet, and I honestly can’t believe how much it has grown over the past few years and how many amazing people I’ve met because of my passion for blogging.  I really can’t wait to see what the future holds for the blog.

So that’s what I’ve learnt over the past few years, what have you learnt?

hey – I agree with everything you say here especially the fact that I am always learning. It is a never ending fun ride and I am glad I decided to start my blog 2 years ago. When blogging inspiration goes I tend to just switch off for 2 days and do other things and it comes back right in the middle of doing something fun.

I really love this! I need to find some more adjectives too, everything is gorgeous or lovely in my eyes!

And I totally agree that there is no limit. It’s great we have our own space to write what ever the hell we want!

Oh God, so true! I never thought blogging would be so time consuming as it is. It does take over our lives sometimes. But it is an incredible hobby. I also agree we put an immense pressure to blog and to be good at it. It can be overwhelming at times, but I always try to remind myself this is something for fun and I shouldn’t allow anything negative to interfere with it. x
