Background ideas for blog pictures

Blog background ideas

In the two years that I’ve been blogging, I must have taken thousands if not hundreds of thousands of pictures, and although I’m no expert, I thought it might help some of you if I shared with you all some background ideas for blog pictures.

As I work full time, I take all my blog pictures on a Saturday or Sunday morning. And there is nothing worse then having a huge pile of products to photograph and no idea how to set them up for taking pictures. So here are some of my background ideas.

White Space
There is a reason why a lot of people like to take pictures on a white background, and that is because it adds light to the photo. I have the Malm dressing table right next to a window, so I normally use this as a white background for pictures, but if you don’t have a white surface, then cheat and use white paper or card.
Here are some of the pictures I’ve used recently with white backgrounds:

Magazines & Notepads
Another way to add some excitement to your pictures is by adding magazines and notesbooks. I find creating layers with these adds something different and interesting to the photos. Plus it creates the illusion of a fuller picture. See, that magazine subscription and notebook obsession does come in handy.

Textures
While I love the clean, white look of a picture, I do also like to add some texture. I do this by either using a scarf, a feather fan, or a throw from the bedroom or lounge.

Table Tops

To add depth of field to a photo and to create the blurry background, it helps to place your product on the edge of a table, then bending down at the same height and take your photo from there. The table helps to give space to work with, and helps to create the blurred background.

Props
I am a big lover of adding props to photographs and trying to make my pictures look a little bit more exciting. I have a small collection of candles, fairy lights, bags and photo frames that I use. Most of these I picked up very cheaply from Tiger, Ikea or Primark, so if you want to invest in some of your own, you don’t need to spend lots.

Now that I’ve gone through these ideas, I hope they were helpful and have given you some inspiration. I’m by no means an expert but some of these have helped me create more interesting and varied pictures for my blog over the years, and although I’m still not completely satisfied, I’m starting to create something that I hope, one day, might be Pinterest worthy.

Thank you for sharing the background ideas. Some lovely ideas, I need to add more props to my pictures, I am usually a bit scared of adding other items and my photos end up being boring! x
