We’ve all been there, the sun has come out but your legs/arms/face are looking unbelievably pale and white. So what do we do? We grab the nearest bottle of fake tan and hope for the best. Although we all hope to achieve a sun kissed glow, it can be hard to get it right. Trust me. I spent many years not quite mastering the art of applying fake tan but my mistakes are your gain. Let me share with you all my top tips for how to apply fake tan like a pro.
Exfoliate
This is an obvious one, but you need to exfoliate beforehand to ensure an even tan. I’ll either use a body scrub or a pair of exfoliating mitts, or sometimes both. Both just help to give you a smooth skin base before you start applying the fake tan.
Moisturise the danger areas
You need to moisturise those areas that are prone to showing the signs that you’re St Tropez glow might not be from the south of France. Essentially, moisturise any dry spots, so areas like hands, ankles, elbows and knees.
Use a mitt or gloves
When you use a mitt or glove to apply fake tan, the product goes on more evenly and you avoid the dreaded orange hands. Just remember to lightly apply your fake tan over the tops of your hands at the end so that your hands have some colour to them.
Use moisturiser and a dry muslin cloth
If there are any small disasters on your feet, wrists, or armpits, then just use a dry muslin cloth and a little bit of moisturiser to gently buff away the excess fake tan. This also works quite well at removing the not very attractive fake tan moustache.
Moisturise daily
Now that you have successfully applied your fake tan, moisturise daily to ensure it continues to look good, and exfoliate every 3rd day for an even fade.
I hope these help, and let me know if you have any other tips for fake tanning success.

Great tips! I always forget to exfoliate and it makes such a difference when you do!!

Great tips, I never used to apply fake tan, but now just love a touch of colour, especially before going on my hols – hate being milk bottle white!

I hate being milk bottle white before my hols as well x
Great tips! I totally agree with you on moisturising daily afterwards, it really does make it last longer and fades more evenly too.
Thank you x

Great tips! I don’t exactly need fake tan, lol but I do exfoliate and moisturizer legs and I love how smooth and glowy it makes them;-) especially in the summer months when they’re out in show x
Exfoliating and moisturising are key to summer ready legs 🙂 x
Great post! I love fake tan and trying new ones, I haven’t tried any of those though.
