Now I don’t know about you. But Las Vegas had been on my bucket list for the longest time. There was just something about the city of sin that really appealed to me. I’m not sure if it was the lights, the glamour, the history or just the sheer tackiness of the place (and I mean that in the nicest way possible). But I’ve also wanted to go. And this year was the year that it finally happened. I booked my biggest solo trip to date and lived it up in Las Vegas for a week! So if you’re planning a trip to Sin City, here are six things you need to see and do in Las Vegas.
WALK THE STRIP

I stayed in the Aria Hotel and location wise it was perfect for me. I knew I wanted to be on the strip as I wanted to be within easy access of all the sites and hotels that I wanted to see. So for me, the location was perfect. But regardless of where you’re staying in Las Vegas, I would highly recommend walking the stripe. It’s so easy to get around with walkways between the hotels and across the roads to make it safe to cross from one side of the strip to the other. You’ll definitely encounter show girls wanting to get pictures. And street performers looking for tips, but it’s a fun experience.
EXPLORE THE VENETIAN

While walking the strip make sure to pop into The Venetian hotel. Not only does it have a great parade of shops inside the hotel. But you can also experience a gondola ride or a gelato in their version of St Marks Square. It does feel a little like you’re in Disneyland, with the painted ceilings and picture perfect looking shop facades. But it’s something you really have to see to believe. And it definitely makes you feel like you could be walking the streets of Venice.
WALK THE STREETS OF THE BIG APPLE

Another favourite hotel of mine on the Strip was New York New York. Again, it’s made to feel like you could be walking the streets of the Big Apple. And that’s exactly how it looks and feels! There’s even a mini Statue of Liberty inside made out of chocolate, and a much bigger one on the outside. The hotel buildings are made to look like the skyscrapers of New York. And there’s even a rollercoaster for you to enjoy that takes you outside the hotel – it’s wild!
FLAMINGO SPOT AT THE FLAMINGO

Another favourite hotel to go and explore was the Flamingo. Not only is the location great – it’s right next door to the Linq Promenade which is full of cheap eats and fun places to drink. But they have actual flamingoes in their gardens. That you can go and watch. You can also explore the rest of the gardens which include a turtle pool, a wedding space and the pool. It was beautiful.
TAKE A HELICOPTER TOUR TO THE GRAND CANYON

I have to admit, this was one of the first things I did when I booked my trip to Las Vegas. I knew I wanted to explore outside of the strip and outside of Nevada. And this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. I picked the Sunset tour with Maverick Helicopters and it was worth every single penny. I got picked up from the hotel, taken to the airport, where I boarded a helicopter with four others. We flew about 45 minutes to the Grand Canyon going over the Hoover Dam before landing in the Grand Canyon itself. We stayed there for about 45 minutes enjoying champagne and snacks before taking the 45 minute trip back to Las Vegas and flying down the strip as the sun was beginning to set and the lights were coming on. It was magical!
WATCH THE BALLEGIO FOUNTATINS

And I feel like a trip to Las Vegas would not be complete without a stop at the Bellagio Foundations to watch this incredible display!. This a free show that runs every half hour during the day and then every 15 minutes from 7pm – midnight. I saw one show during the day and then another at dusk. And it definitely feels a bit more magical to watch it at dusk with the sun setting, the lights coming on and this incredible show happening right in front of you.
So these are the 6 things you need to see and do in Las Vegas. Let me know if you’ve been to Las Vegas in the comments, and what you’d recommend to see and do in the City of Sin.
