Adding a touch of vintage with Rokit

Now I don’t know about you, but if I could head back in time, I would love to head back to the 60’s and 70’s Not only am I a huge fan of music from that era. But I’m also obsessed with the fashion. But seeing as time travel isn’t possible, I satisfy my inner hippy by shopping for vintage clothes. And although I’m still relatively new to the whole vintage clothing scene. I love the fact that you can find some real gems at vintage fairs and clothing stores. Or even online. Like these three pieces from Rokit.

So if you love the look of vintage clothes, but aren’t sure where to begin. Trust me, it can feel like a minefield. But here are my top three tips for a successful vintage purchase:

Size matters

I’m sure this won’t be a shock. But sizing has changed considerably over the years. The label may say size 18. But actually compared to today’s size measurements. It could be closer to a 14 or even 12. Which is why it’s so important to try the clothes on when you can. And if you’re buying online, make sure you get the measurements to be able to measure against yourself. This was such a help with shopping from the Rokit site. They have the measurements for everything!

Condition is everything

Now obviously this is easier to check in person, than online. But one of the benefits of shopping from the Rokit site is that they let you know what the condition of the item is like. But just because the condition isn’t perfect, which hardly any vintage will be. Don’t let it put you off. Some things are easy to do yourself, like replacing a missing button or taking the hem up. But if it has a stain – it’s probably not going to come out.

Vintage is unique

For me, fashion is all about wearing what you love. And the best bit about vintage clothes is their uniqueness! You’ll never run the risk of someone else wearing the same Zara jacket or Topshop dress if you’re rocking vintage. It’s also a great way to add designer pieces to your collection without breaking the bank. These Marc Jacob shoes might be a few seasons old. But chances are I would never have paid full price for them when they were new. And the same with this Kenzo silk scarf.

What are your thoughts on vintage clothes? Are you a fan?

As always thank you to Kaye for taking the pictures!

I must admit i’ve never really looked into or explored the idea of vintage clothing before as i tend to stick with a more modern wardrobe. If i could go back to any era though it would definitely be the 40’s and 50’s, i LOVE the whole Grease/Rock N Roll vibe xx

What a great tip about the sizing, of course sizing was smaller then! I like the 50s style as it suits my body.

I think vintage can work on the right type of person. It really suits your personality with the pop of colour. I don’t think I’d suit it though. My favourite clothing era is the 1920s

Some lovely products, I especially like the gorgeous scarf. I’m not a fan of vintage for myself but I do think it looks lovely on others.
