Beauty tips I wish I knew as a teenager

As a teenager I was (and still am) obsessed with makeup. But back then then it was all about Lancome Juicy Tubes, Collection 2000 and lusting over the cute packaging in Benefit. Perhaps not much has changed over the years. But luckily the one thing that has changed is that the beauty disasters are fewer and further in between then they were back in day. Well I hope they are anyway. Which is why I wanted to do today’s post and share with you all, the beauty tips I wish I knew as a teenager:

  1. Blend, blend and then blend some more. Growing up I could never find a foundation that come in my skin shade. Everything was either too light or too dark and not blending the product into my skin only made this more obvious. Trust me it was not a good look…
  2. Practice makes perfects when it comes to liquid eyeliner. Panda eyes are not a good look so ensure you watch as many YouTube tutorials (I still do this) as you try and master the liquid eyeliner technique
  3. Natural is best when it comes to your hair colour. Naturally I have quite dark brown locks that I’ve lightened and then darkened again over the years. I wish I had kept my hair its natural colour from the very beginning rather than damage it with the amount of dye I’ve used
  4. Just because you don’t have spots, doesn’t mean you don’t need to take care of your skin. I was lucky in the sense that growing up I didn’t have acne or any spots really. But I really should have settled into a proper skincare routine a lot earlier than I eventually did. So ladies starting cleansing, toning and moisturising NOW!
  5. Short hair is not a good look. I now know longer hair suits me so much more than shorter hair which is why I’m so annoyed at myself for cutting off my long thick locks for a short style that just look ridiculous on me. And ever since then I’ve struggled to grow my hair back to a decent length
  6. Pale looks better than orange. As a teenager I was obsessed with being tanned, unfortunately I didn’t master the art (and it really is an art) of applying fake tan until later in life. I literally spent years with orange palms, knees and elbows. It’s really not a good look so make sure you moisturise extensively before going anywhere near a self-tanning product.
  7. Be confident. It’s OK to be different. To be unique. And to be individual. Never let anyone tell you that you any different. Remember no one is perfect so don’t waste time striving for perfection. Instead learn to love yourself exactly as you are and look past any ‘imperfections’.

What beauty tips do you wish you knew as a teenager?

I would have started a much better skincare regimen much earlier and I would have been much more careful to always wear sunscreen.

ha ha I dread to think how I actually looked as a teenager I think a satsuma would just about cover it and I never blended in at all and had orange streaks everywhere also very cheap products did my skin no favours

I agree pale does look far better than orange although that reminds me I need more tanning cream for my face!

Hahaa I loved this post ! I had so many bad habits when I was younger .. being orange was one of them !! As well as huge, backcombed hair! What was I thinking ! I guess it’s always fun to look back on and see how you’ve improved !

I wish I had known to blend, I rarely ever wore foundation and therefore didn’t know how to apply it properly x

I think it must be even trickier for teenagers nowadays as conturing is all the rage. I know I would fail miserable if I was a teenager now. x

This post was great and I wish I knew these same things as well. I was also told when I was first learning how to put on makeup that less is more and I never took that to heart until now. It is true less makeup does make it look like you have more on.
