Five easy SEO tips for bloggers

*This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link!*

Easy SEO tips for bloggersSearch Engine Optimisation, or SEO for those in the know. It can be a complicated subject. But with millions and millions of blogs out there, you need to understand it to help your blog stand out from the crowd. Now I’m by no means an expert but I’ve learnt some tips along the way that helps increase your blog’s ‘visibility’ to search engines.

Name your images

I know this might seem obvious, but you’ll be surprised at how many people don’t change the image name. I would suggest that the image name is clear and relevant to the picture. So rather than MAC Lipstick, name it MAC Lipstick Ruby Woo. Also, once the image is uploaded, make sure you complete the Title Text and Alt Text in the image properties. As Google can’t ‘see’ your picture, the ALT Text gives the image a description and tells Google what it is.

Link you own posts

Again, another easy win for you all. If you’re writing about a nail polish that could be a dupe for a previous one you’ve reviewed, then link to it in your post. It shows Google and other search engines that you have relevant information on your blog and ensures that readers stay on your blog for longer as you’ve directed them to other posts. Also think about including a plugin that links to other relevant posts at the end of your posts.

Use relevant keywords

If you’re a fellow WordPress user then download the Yoast SEO plugin right now. I mean it. It’s one of the easiest SEO plugins to use and will make your life so much easier. Especially when it comes to keywords. I would suggest that you make your keyword something that people would search for. For example, how to use a DSLR, or Essie Fiji review. Once you’ve decided on your keyword, if you’re using Yoast, you can see how many times your keyword is used and how strong the SEO ranking of you page is. It them gives you tips on how to move from a red or amber ranking to a green ranking.

Change your post’s permalink

This is easy to do in WordPress but a little harder in Blogger. Essentially a permalink is your posts URL and you want it to reflect what the post is about. WordPress will do this automatically, but you’ll have to manually change it in Blogger. You want to do this because it helps Google understand what your post is about, and helps your readers find what they’re searching for.

Post consistently

A good way to make your blog stand out and be seen as more ‘credible’ in Google’s eyes, is to blog regularly ensure your content is fresh and new. Posting regularly shows Google that your site is a relevant source of information, which helps to improve your site’s rankings.

So these have been my five easy SEO tips for bloggers, let me know what other SEO tips you have and if you’ve found these ones useful.

Great tips! The only other thing I would add is to make your content as unique and individual as possible. It’s harder to stand out on Google if you’re writing about the same thing as seventy billion other bloggers. But if you carve your own groove, you will naturally stand out more.
