Five things I learnt from my first London Fashion Week

This was my first time at London Fashion Week. My first experience of mingling with the fashion elite as the new collections are presented. And I loved it. I loved the makeup, the styling, the locations. It’s definitely an experience like no other and like most experiences it has it’s highs and it’s low. So here are seven things I learnt from my first London Fashion Week.

It doesn’t matter what you wear

It really doesn’t. Unless you’re there to be photographed or you’ve been personally invited by the designer, then it doesn’t matter what you wear. I just wish I had known that before I spent hours trying to find the perfect outfit. So my advice is to go for comfort first, style second and thirdly layer up. It may be cold outside the venue but with the amount of people and lights inside, it gets pretty warm!

But there will be some odd outfits

I’m the first to admit that I’m not particularly fashionable. In fact maybe I just don’t ‘get’ fashion. But at my first fashion week I’ve seen some odd sights. People who are dressed in some pretty outrageous outfits. And I have to admit I’m envious of their confidence and sense of style.

Fashion Week FOMO

Yes it really is a thing. Despite not having enough hours in a day to fit in absolutely everything I want to, I still find myself with a big fear of missing out (FOMO). With show times clashing or only having 10 minutes to get across town, it’s almost impossible to fit everything in. Which means you can get major FOMO.

Everyone is VERY busy

One thing I noticed during my first fashion week is how busy everyone is. And I mean everyone. You do spend a lot of time hearing how everyone is super busy/tired/stressed or all of the above and living off a diet of caffeine and champagne. But this is more for the buyers, bloggers and journalists who are going all out for the whole month, and not just London Fashion Week.

I will always feel out of place

I’m really not a fashionista at all and the thought of dressing up in something fashionable to go to fashion week did scare me. But I loved the whole experience of it. And I would love to go back again, even though I did feel completely out of place and out of my comfort zone.

What are your thoughts on London Fashion Week?

There are some good points here! I’ve never been to London Fashion Week – I’ve been invited to a few shows but haven’t yet managed to go – but these points are exactly what I worry about. I can’t imagine trying to find the perfect outfit haha! x

I’m so jealous of you being to fashion week – I’ve yet to make it but I used to go and hang around somerset house as a teenager dressed up hoping to be photographer (cringe) Maybe soon, now that I am blogging, I will get an invite! Hoping for A/W! I will definitely be coming back to this post as a reminder of your great advice!

Love this Stephanie-an honest and light hearted look at fashion week. I’ve never been but would love to, to experience it all.
