How long should you keep makeup for?

How long should you keep makeup for

I don’t know about you but up until last month, I had no idea how long to keep makeup for. I’ve got drawers and drawers full of the stuff, some of which I use on a daily basis, some of which I use every few months and some things I’m saving for ‘best’, whenever that is. But makeup expires! If you’re anything like me then it’s probably time we had a clear out and got rid of all the out of date products. Because who wants to apply out of date foundation to their face and risk a breakout of spots, or use out of date mascara and eyeliner and risk an eye infection?

So how long should you keep makeup for?

·         Mascara – one year

·         Foundation – one year

·         Concealer – 12 -18 months

·         Powder – 18 months

·         Blusher/Bronzer – 18 months

·         Cream blush – 12 to 18 months

·         Eye shadow – 18 months

·         Eyeliner – 18 months

·         Liquid eyeliner – 6 months

·         Lipstick/lip gloss – 18 months

·         Lip liner – one year

·         Nail polish – one year

I’ve just had a quick look at my makeup collection and I’m pretty sure I could throw at least a third of it away now because it’s out of date. And I’m going to be wearing a LOT of makeup over the coming months before everything else starts to expire!

Do you throw your makeup out after it’s expired? Or do you keep it for longer than you should?

I definitely keep my makeup faaar longer than I should. I know that makeup has an expiration date which is why I”m trying to cut down on how much I buy because I know that a lot of items won’t get enough use before it”s time to throw them out! I actually thought a lot of make-up expired in a shorter time than those listed above so thanks! Great post 🙂

I only just discovered this too! I refuse to throw some things away especially when I haven’t got a lot wear out of them. I just think what’s the worse that can happen? Lol. Very informative post, thank you!

I’m definitely guilty of keeping my make up longer than I should!

My issue is, if the companies recommend this is how how long they last, why do they not start offering smaller sizes?!

Posts like this always make me feel guilty as I tend to keep my makeup longer than recommended! I definitely need to go through it all and toss away some things, and this was the perfect reminder. x
