I’m so pleased with how well these blogging posts are being received, thank you to everyone who reads, comments and shares them. I’m hoping this will become a long running series, but what I wanted to focus on this week is how to keep your blog content flowing. It can be really hard to constantly come up with new blog post ideas, especially when you don’t have the luxury of hundreds of PR’s sending you press releases and samples to fill your blog with.
For me, I find two things help with this. The first is having a loose schedule. I used to do a Manicure Monday series which helped me plan my blog posts knowing that every Monday would be a nail related post. Now I know that every Saturday I have a blogging tips post and then every Sunday I have a video. The second thing that helps with keeping my blog content flowing is having a list of topics to write about. So below is the list of content themes that I use for moments when I’m lacking inspiration, or looking for something new to blog about. This list isn’t definitive, just a few topics that help to keep my bog content flowing.
Beauty
Most of what is featured on Merry Musing is beauty related. What can I say, I’m a beauty junkie who loves to blog about the newest lipstick or mascara. I find that when it comes to beauty, there is a huge amount that you can blog about. From products reviews and makeup tutorials to skincare favourites and beauty routines, the possibilities here are endless.
Content ideas: beauty or skincare hauls / new makeup wishlists / product reviews / products you can’t live without / what’s in your makeup bag / product fails / beauty tutorials / skincare routines
Fashion
Another popular topic to blog about is fashion. Whether that’s a new purchase or your outfit for the day, I love reading about people’s style and seeing how they’ve put together their outfits. This is one area that I’m hoping to feature more of on my blog.
Content ideas: Outfit of the day / what to pack for a weekend away / new wardrobe additions / seasonal lookbook / recreate the look / how to style a particular item / how to wear an item five ways
Food
Another favourite topic of mine to blog about is food. I’m always looking for an excuse to don my apron and whip up some delicious treats in the kitchen and taking pictures to share on the blog with the recipe is an ideal way to keep your content flowing on your blog.
Content ideas: Favourite cakes / healthy lunches / favourite cookbooks / easy to make cocktails / dinner party recipes / seasonal dishes
Restaurant reviews
Leading on from food related posts, why not take the time to treat yourself to a delicious brunch, or afternoon tea and post about it on your blog. Or create guides for places to eat in areas that you’re familiar with.
Content ideas: Top three places for brunch / afternoon tea reviews/ restaurant reviews
Photo diary
A picture really does say a thousand words, which is why a photo diary posts can be incredibly popular. From sharing what you’ve been up to for the day, weekend or week, photo diaries are a good way to share a little bit more of yourself with your readers, and some of your lovely pictures.
Content ideas: Holiday diary / weekend away in photos / day in the life in pictures
Travel
Similar to the photo diary idea above, if you’re lucky enough to be off traveling soon, or have visited some amazing places then share them on your blog. I’m forever trawling through travel blogs trying to plan my next adventure, so share some of your adventures with your readers.
Content ideas: City guides / holiday diary / travel essentials / packing tips / top 10 thing to see and do in…
Advice
Now this is one area that I’ve been blogging about more and more over the past few months. Whether you want to give advice about blogging, feeling positive, careers or sticking to a fitness routine, get your tips and tricks down in a blog post and share it.
Content ideas: How to posts / top tips for achieving… / personal experience / blogging advice / career and interview tips
Home
This is an area that I’m hoping to expand into later this year, but I’m forever looking at home related posts on other people’s blogs. Whether it’s a room tour, before and after pictures or a homeware wishlist, I’m obsessed with snooping into people’s homes and getting interior and decoration ideas.
Content ideas: Home décor inspiration / new homeware additions / best home buys / room tours / room updates
So there you have it, a whole list of themes and ideas to help keep your blog content flowing when inspiration is lacking. I hope you’ve found these useful, let me know what you do to keep your blog content flowing.

This is such an inspiring blog post. I have bookmarked it now so I can be inspired when I’m having a brain dead blogging day. Thank you 🙂
Thank you, I’m glad it’ll help x
This is such a great post and I think it will help a lot of people (especially those who get regular bloggers block lol). I always wonder if I chop and change my content too much as I switch between beauty, fashion, parenting, food, home interiors etc. but after reading this I feel a lot more confident that I’m not alone in wanting to cover a wide range of topics! 🙂
