Now I don’t know about you, but saving money is hard. Especially when it feels like you just don’t have enough money to save in the first place. I’ve been there. I get it. I used to think I was someone who just couldn’t save. But you know what? You can learn to be a saver. And there are simple steps that you can take to save money when it feels like you’re not a natural saver.
CREATE A MEAL PLAN
Now this might seem like an obvious point, but I can’t stress the importance of creating a meal plan enough. Whenever I’m looking to cut back on spending. This is what I do. I look at what I have in the cupboards. I look at what I have in the freezer and work out what meals I have. I then make a list of what extra ingredients I might need for those meals. And stick to it when I’m good shopping. I know meal planning can seem a bit boring but honestly, it will save you money!
CHECK YOUR DIRECT DEBITS AND STANDING ORDERS
You need to do this for two reasons. Firstly, can you save money by canceling direct debits that you no longer need? And secondly, check that the money you’re spending on your bills is the best deal. If you’ve never switched supplier then you could literally save yourself hundreds! I switched to Bulb last year, not only did I get £50 in credit but it’s consistently the cheapest place to get electricity!
HAVE NO SPEND DAYS OR MONTHS
If you really want to kick start your savings. Then have no spend days, or even a no spend month. Of course you’ll need to spend money on your essentials. Like food and travel costs etc. But we can all cut down on our other spending. A no spend day, or month can really open your eyes to how much money you spend on the little things. And those little things really do add up.
USE A CASHBACK SITE
If you do need to spend money, then you might as well save or earn money when spending it. And that’s why I love using Top Cashback. If you need to renew any insurances, or you need to buy something online. Always make sure you check to see if you can earn some cash back or get a discount by using cashback sites. Last year I saved over £1,000 just by using them.
HAVE A CLEAR OUT
So this doesn’t technically save you money. But it is a great way to make money to add to your savings account. We all have unwanted items in our home, and you could earn some good money by posting them up on selling sites like eBay or Facebook Market Place. I regularly sell unwanted clothes and shoes on eBay and usually make at least £100 a month through selling these unwanted items.
So there you have it. Five ways to save money when it feels like you’re not a natural saver. Let me know in the comments below what other ways you like to save money.
