Now I don’t know about you, but I’m all for an across the body bag. A couple of years ago it was big bags for me. The bigger the better. Now though, the smaller the better please. I mean not ridiculously small. I’m looking at you Jacquemus. I still want to carry my phone, purse and keys in a bag. Which is why the YSL Wallet On Chain is one of my all time favourite small across the body bags.
I love the fact that this bag suits almost every occasion. I wear this bag during the day when I’m heading out and don’t need to carry a lot with me. Or when I’m running errands. Plus it works great as an evening bag as you can either remove the strap completely. Or tuck it in to turn the bag into a clutch.
The pebbled textured caviar leather feels incredibly sturdy and it’s so easy to wipe clean if you have any mishaps with food or drink. I mean we’ve all been there right?! I also love that there is so much space in the bag There’s slots for over 20 cards, plus a larger pocket behind each card slot area. Room in front of the card slots and a zipped area in the middle.
I personally can fit in the bag my phone, keys, cards in the slots, sunglasses – but these are usually caseless, unless it’s a slim case like RayBans – and a couple of makeup essentials like lip balm and maybe an eyeliner.
When you compare it my other small bags, like the Mulberry Small Darley, then you can absolutely fit more in this bag. But that’s because the bag is slightly bigger at 22cm wide and 15cm in height. Whereas the Small Darley is 19cm wide and 13cm in height.
Overall, the YSL Wallet On Chain is an absolute staple in my wardrobe, so much so, that I’ve actually just bought the bag in cream with gold hardware, to add some colour variety to my wardrobe. And I can’t wait for it to arrive!
The YSL Wallet On Chain retails for £1,120 but there is a slight cheaper envelop wallet on chain which retails for £850. The main difference is size, the envelope wallet on chain is slightly smaller. And the strap, rather than being all metal like the bigger wallet on chain, has a leather part at the top of the strap which would rest on your shoulder.
