Five boxsets you need to add to your to watch list

Now I don’t know about you. But along with eating a LOT of food and drinking a LOT of Prosecco. I also spent my Christmas break watching a LOT of TV, and in particular boxsets. Now I’m sure I’m not the only one. I mean the cold weather and dark evenings are practically calling out for you to stay in and snuggle up with a blanket and a boxset. Right? Well if you’re stuck with what to watch next on your to watch list. Let me help, as I’ve watched a LOT of really good ones lately.

Peaky Blinders

Let’s start with the most popular one. Although this series actually started back in 2013, I feel like it’s got really popular lately. And it’s easy to see why! I absolutely love this series. It’s set in Birmingham after World War I and follows the exploits of the Peaky Blinders gang. Now I’m not normally one to like gangster type of dramas, but this is brilliant. Word of warning though, if you are female there is a very high chance you will fall deeply and madly in love with Thomas Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. But that’s not a bad thing!

Game Of Thrones

Now I will admit I am late to the party on this one. Like really late. I never thought dragons, a dwarf and a seriously scary dead army and would do it for me. But you know what? It’s bloody brilliant! There are three major storylines to follow and a lot of characters but I’ve been hooked since episode one. And the benefit of being really late to the party is that you can binge watch all seven series!

Tin Star

This is a Sky Atlantic British-Canadian drama that follows a former London police detective as he starts a new life as the police chief of a tiny town in the Canadian Rockies. It stars the ever brilliant Tim Roth as the main character and Christina Hendricks as the head of Public Relations for the major oil company in the area. There are quite a few twist and turns with this one and it’s an absolute must see if you love Tim Roth as much as I do.

Billions

Another one from Sky Atlantic, seriously they have the BEST series at the moment, and this one stars the fantastic Damien Lewis and Paul Giamatti. It’s set in New York and follows Paul Giamatti’s character (U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York) as he tries to bring justice against the Billionaire Hedge Fund Manager (Damien Lewis) for using insider trading and bribery to grow his firm.

The Crown

And finally, a bit of a change from the others but I couldn’t do this post without featuring the ever brilliant, The Crown. It follows the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Season one covers the period from her marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947 to the break up of her sister’s engagement to Peter Townsend in 1955. While season two covers the Suez Crisis in 1956 to the birth of Prince Edward in 1964. It’s an absolute must see if you’re a fan of the Royal Family and period dramas.

If you’ve not got Netflix or Sky to watch these, on then head to HMV to pick up the boxsets – they have them all there.

I’ve only actually watched Game of Thrones out of these ones! I’m forever hearing good things about Peaky Blinders so that’s definitely on my list. 🙂

Food, drinks and TV certainly are highlights of the Christmas period, like you I’ve definitely indulged in all three! My Dad, who isn’t the biggest TV show lover (he prefers watching films), absolutely loves The Crown at the moment so I’m not surprised that you enjoyed it so much too! Peaky Blinders has been on my to-watch list for the longest time, I need to sit down & have a binge!

Of all of them I think The Crown is the one I’d want to watch most – I think I’d be unhappy if they’d invented one or two storylines though. I know there have been a couple of articles saying they’ve been a little creative with the truth!

I hear so many people love Game of Thrones but I could not get past the first few Episodes of Season 1. The story is great but it’s too violent for me.

I have only watched GoT off your list, I have been tempted to the The Crown though as I have heard good things.
