April spending diary

Now I don’t know about you, but I feel like I start every one of these spending diary posts off in the same way. Every month I talk about wanting to save money and spend less. And surprise surprise, every month I’ve managed to spend more than planned. Honestly, it’s a special talent of mine! But if you’re interested, here are my January, February, and March spending diaries. And below is my April spending diary.

Week one 1st – 4th April £1,622.64

Now as per usual, the start of the month is the most expensive for me. That’s when the majority of my direct debits come out. Including my mortgage, my council tax, my TV licence, my mortgage insurance, my electricity bill as well as the standing orders into my savings accounts and investment fund.

Week two 5th – 11th April 802.61

This week luckily was a little less spendy. £9.99 went to Netflix, £500 went to clear my credit card, £56 was spent on two new makeup bits at Charlotte Tilbury, £28.15 was spent at Tesco, another £29.49 was spent at Sainsbury’s, and £18.98 was spent at Dominoes. I also spent £140 on two chests of drawers from Ikea. And £20 went into my LISA.

Week three 12th – 18th April 299.14

This week started with a £47.36 order at Beauty Pie, £29,86 was spent at Tesco. £38.15 was spent on food at Marks and Spencer. £87.50 was paid to the Management Company of my property for the ground rent. £20 went into my LISA. £11.27 paid for my tailwind subscription. And £65 was spent getting my brows and lashes tamed following the restrictions lifting.

Week four 19th – 25th 312.44

This week started with more food purchases in the form of £16.18 being spent at Millie’s cookies, £16.14 being spent at Tesco, £17.57 was spent on new skincare bits at Boots. £20 went into my LISA. £28.20 for my broadband. £5 went for NowTV. £4.99 was for Prime Video, £49 on a new handbag liner from handbag Angels, as well as £113 on getting my roots done and hair cut. £26.99 went on a fancy new iPhone and Airpod charger. And another £15.37 was spent at Sainsbury’s.

Week five 26th – 30th 666.73

This week started with me getting car insurance on my new car! Which came to £307.19. And then a further £43.46 was spent on filling up said new car. I also spent £25.98 on new drawer knobs for the Ikea chest of drawers. £86.94 on a family birthday present. £20 into my LISA. £14.12 for my Flodesk subscription. £73.80 for my phone bill. £17.50 on my first meal out in months. And then another £30.21 and £47.53 on the food and drinks from my second meal out in months!

Total for April: £3,703.56

So that’s my April spending diary. My plan for May. Well, like every month to take advantage of the fact that I’m still working from home, and save more. I’m still looking at where else to put my savings. I currently have money in a LISA, as well as an investment fun. But I think a Stocks & Shares ISA is next on the list. What are your financial goals for May? Have you ever tracked your spending like this?
