It’s almost the end of the year and time for my penultimate spending diary of 2021. Now if you’ve followed along for the series and read all the other spending diaries. Then you’ll know that there has been a bit of a theme this year. And that is to spend less and save more. Have I achieved that? Of course not. I’m a shopaholic who lives by the Carrie Bradshaw saying of ‘I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my wardrobe’. Let’s see if my November spending diary is any different…
Week one 1st – 7th £2,652.94 (although £670 was savings and investments)
Now as usual, the first week of the month is very spendy. Pretty much all my direct debits come out at this time. Plus I’ve decided to overpay on my mortgage, so that payment is more. So I had £885.10 for my mortgage. £127 for council tax. £28.15 for broadband. £74.72 on utilities. £243.03 for my car. £22.99 for the mortgage insurance. £13.37 for my TV license. £9.99 for Netflix. £90 to my cleaner. And a new one, £184 to Virgin Holidays for my holiday next year. Plus £100 in my investment account, £500 into savings, £70 into Moneybox. Food wise, I spent £24.87 at Waitrose, £13.55 in Sainsbury’s and £26.17 on Dominoes. I also spent £27 on my nails. £108 on a train ticket to Paris (wishful thinking) and £105 on a hotel room in Paris (again wishful thinking).
Week two 8th – 14th £543.20
The week started with £70 going into my Moneybox account. £360 going to the decorator who painted my room, along with £32 in paint. I was also in the office this week, so that meant £8 on parking, £23.90 on train ticket and £4.80 on the tube. I then went into London again at the weekend and spent another £12.60 on my train ticket (it’s so much cheaper to get into the city at the weekend!). And £4.90 on the tube. Plus £27 on flowers for a friend’s birthday.
Week three 15th – 21st £603.99
Like usual, the week started with £70 going to Moneybox. Then £15 to get my brows tinted and waxed. £39 on leggings in the Sweaty Betty sale and £9.99 on Spotify. Oh and £470 on a new bag from Aspinal of London.
Week four 22nd – 28th £241.15
Like usual, the week started with £70 going to Moneybox. I then spent £15.25 on food at Tesco, £4.99 on NowTv. I was also in the office this week, so that was £8 on parking, £23.90 on train ticket and £4.80 on the tube. Plus £16.71 on drinks after work. £12 was spent at Hotel Chocolate for Christmas presents. £27 on getting my nails done. £22.50 on presets for my pictures. And then £36 with my web hosting company.
Week five 29th – 30th £169.09
Like usual, the week started with £70 going to Moneybox. And then £24.91 on maintenance insurance for the car and £74.18 for my phone,
Total = £4,210.37
Did I save more and spend less. Clearly not. Although out of that big figure, £950 went into savings and investment accounts and not all of the spends were out of my monthly salary. Some of those spends were planned and paid for out of savings. So that’s my November spending diary. Let’s see if December’s is any better!
