I’m not sure if this makes me sound shallow or materialistic but one of the most exciting things about having a spare room was the chance to have a walk-in wardrobe. It does make me sound shallow, doesn’t it? But in the words of the great Carrie Bradshaw, ‘I like my money where I can see it. Hanging in my closet’. Which is why I wanted to use the space that would have otherwise been wasted. Into a space that I would love and use. Every. Single. Day. Which is what designing my dream wardrobe is.

I turned what could have been a lovely but mostly unused spare bedroom, into a closet/office space that I adore. And I do adore it. Before I even moved in, I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted a space that would house all my clothes. And here’s a spoiler for you all – I own a LOT of clothes. Plus my shoes and bags in one organised place. Now seeing as the room is quite a good size, I wanted to make use of the main wall to have a full-width wardrobe.

Now, rather than get them built-in. I went for the Ikea Pax ones that can be attached to the wall but then removed if needed. The main reason being that I don’t plan on staying here forever – it’s a great starter home. But when I come to sell, I want to be able to sell it as a two-bed place, rather than a one-bed place with rather large and fabulous wardrobe space.

But, back to Ikea and the Pax wardrobes. The beauty with Ikea is that these wardrobes are completely customisable. I went for two double wardrobes with a three-quarter wardrobe in the middle to house all the shoes. The wardrobe on the left is full size to house all my coats and dresses. And on the right, it’s split. The top half has a hanging rail for tops and skirts. With the bottom half split into drawers, and my personal favourite part – a jewellery divider.

Now it didn’t take long to fill the wardrobe and my shoes are now on a one-in-one-out basis, but I love it. If I had space, I would add another wardrobe in. But then maybe I just need to become a bit better at throwing out the things that I don’t wear/don’t fit.

What do you think of this wardrobe? How would you start designing your dream wardrobe?

That wardrobe is beautiful, I love all the storage that it has and the fact that you can show your shoes off to. I honestly thought they were fitted wardrobes but to find out they are IKEA is amazing. X
I can’t imagine having the space for this kind of amazing wardrobe – maybe one day when the kids have left home!
Oh this is amazing! I’m very jealous! What beautiful furniture and decor, and your clothes are gorgeous!
This is exactly what I’d love to have. I really want to have a closet space and it’s something I’m hoping we can make a reality when me and my boyfriend buy a house. Yours looks fab! x
I have the Ikea Pax too – and I absolutely love it. I love how you can customise it inside. Kaz
You have created a great space, so practical compared to a spare room. I’m also really impressed with your shoe collection. You know how to shop
It’s really awesome to have your own wardrobe. Not everyone gets to do this. You’ve done a fantastic job.
Love all the photos you’ve posted! I’d love to have a wardrobe like this one day
