What to do when you’ve lost your exercising mojo

couch to 5k

It’s the middle of January which means if you’re anything like me then you’re a few weeks into your New Year New You health kick. And doesn’t it suck! I seem to have a lot of motivation at the beginning. But now it’s part of my routine, it’s getting harder and harder to drag my sorry self out of bed in the dark each morning. It’s not as if I’m not seeing progress I am. I’m running further than I ever have, but I’ve really lost my exercising mojo over the past week or so. So if you’re like me then here are my top 5 tips to get your exercising mojo back.

Make a new playlist

I’ve been listening to the same songs on shuffle for the past six months and it’s getting a little boring. So I’ve recently made myself an upbeat playlist full of songs that make me want to get up and dance. And it’s definitely helped me get my exercising mojo back.

Get some new gym clothes

When I first joined the gym last year I didn’t let myself buy any new gym clothes. I’d joined a gym a few years back and bought a lot of new gym gear then that is still like new today. But buying yourself something new to exercise in is a great pick me up. In fact it’s amazing how motivating a new pair of leggings or even a new gym top can be.

Set a schedule

It’s unrealistic of me to commit to going to the gym five days a week. But I can commit to two days a week. And as the gym is on my way to work I’ve set myself the goal of going twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday. And I have to say I much prefer working out before work. I’m more productive, have more energy and just feel better for the whole day.

Switch it up

Although I tend to just hit the treadmill when I’m at the gym. I top this up and add a little variety by heading to a boxercise class on a Wednesday. The benefit of going to a class is that you can’t escape from them. Once you’re in there, you’re in and working for the next hour. And trust me, my boxercise instructor works us all really hard!

Set realistic goals

My main goal at the moment is to improve my fitness. I want to be in a position where I can comfortably run 5kn in 20-25 minutes. Which at the moment I can’t. I find setting small and realistic goals keeps you motivated because you can achieve them.

Do you have any other tips on getting your exercising mojo back?

I’m feeling exactly like this right now and i’m glad you’ve written this post as it’s giving me some inspiration to get back into my programme. I’ve missed 3 classes this week because i’m just feeling lazy. So i’m determined to go to the spin class at lunchtime today x

Needed this, I just got some yoga stuff to encourage me back into exercising, I need to get my flexibility and durance back. A playlist is spot on – probably need to make a new one ASAP!

New gym clothes always works for me! I had a foot injury for the last few months of 2016 and I’m planning to go back into the gym at the end of January. Going to treat myself to some new trainers first though 😉
