I’ve been blogging for over six years now. And I can honestly say that in so many ways, starting a blog has completely changed my life. Not only has it bought me so much joy, and given me a passion I didn’t know existed. But over the years I’ve been able to work with some amazing brands, visited new places and attended some phenomenal events. All things that wouldn’t have happened without this little space on the internet.
And I have to say the blogging community has certainly come a long way since Merry Musing started back in 2012. From the style of pictures people post, to the general layout of blogs. Back then engagement was higher and expectations were lower. Today things are a lot more professional, and the standard has changed. People expect exquisite photography, and beautiful writing. Everyone has definitely had to up their game, which isn’t a bad thing. But the pressure has certainly got to me over the years.
Regular readers of this blog will know that I’ve definitely been guilty of being a little bit more of a sporadic poster at times. Trying to juggle a demanding job, a busy social life and a home is tough at times. And when life gets hectic, it’s all too easy for this blog to fall by the wayside. But hopefully you’ve have noticed that the posts are getting more frequent and my face popping up more. And the secret? I’ve fallen back in love with blogging and re-discovered my why. And my way is simple.
I love to blog. I love to write. And I love to share my experiences with you.
So that’s what I’m going back to do. I’m taking it back to the old school and writing about what makes me happy. A couple of years ago pretty much all my content was decided by PR’s. It was based on what products were sent in and what I liked. And while those type of blogs are the ones I turn to when I want an honest review of a product. It wasn’t the content I enjoyed writing about. Plus, it seemed that everyone else got the same PR samples as me, and were writing the same type of content that I was.
And where’s the fun in that? Having spent time working on my niche, and finding my why, I’m excited to fall back in love with the thing I started all those years ago. And to fall back in love with designing content that you will enjoy – well that’s the plan!

I love blogging its the one hobby I have that makes me happy. Glad you found passion again.

I felt the same recently, and made an effort to write more personal and non-sponsored posts. life can be busy and sometimes the paid stuff takes priority, but getting a balance is important
Ah that’s great that you’re back in love with it. I too genuinely love to write and it’s such a lovely creative outlet isn’t it?
I’ve been feeling very much the same recently. I’ve been enjoying writing some personal posts recently and not focusing all too much on the ‘other’ side of things.
I think its good to take a step back and remember why you started blogging in the first place. I am trying to make sure I do more personal content
It is so frustrating when you hit a wall but glad to hear you have fallen back in love with blogging again
I totally understand how you felt! I feel like that too sometimes and it’s so important to take a step back and realise why you fell in love with blogging in the first place!
It is always nice when you can take things back to basics and enjoy writing about what you love. Over the last 5 years my content has evolved and though I do have pieces dictated by PRs, most of the content is of my own wanting.
do what makes you happy! your passion will shine through and will show 🙂 good luck with everything this year x
I absolutely agree. You’ve got to write about what you enjoy, otherwise what’s the point. There’s definitely a balance.
