Now I don’t know about you. But when it comes to food, sometimes good old fashioned pub grub is just what you need. Well, it is for me anyway. As much as I love dining out in fancy restaurants and trying new dishes. Sometimes all you want is just normal food, done well. And that’s exactly what I got when I paid a visit to the Great Northern pub in St Albans.
Now being just 20 minutes away from St Albans, I have tried quite a few of the restaurants in the area. And although I have my favourites, I’m always keen to try somewhere new and different. And while the Great Northern was a new one for me. It’s a lovely spot it is if you fancy a quiet meal in a nice pub. I headed there with my blogging bestie Steph on a Thursday evening for good food, good wine, and a good old catch up.
Now while the menu is pretty small, it does change often. And while I decided against a starter, Steph opted for the fried whiting. Which not only looked fab, but I’m told, tasted pretty good too. For mains, I opted for the classic cheeseburger. While Steph went for the chicken and chips. Both dishes were lovely. And while they’re not necessarily Instagramable, they were tasty.
The pudding choice was a little limited, so neither of us decided to go for one. But I like that the menu was small and that it changes regularly. The pub also has a lovely atmosphere and it’s a great place for a catch up over some simple but good food, and good wine.
