How I afford luxury handbags, and how you can too

How I afford luxury handbags, and how you can too

Now if you’re a regular reader of this blog. Or follow me on social media. You’ll probably know that I like my handbags. And in particular my designer handbags. This isn’t unusual though. Designer IT bags have been around for decades now and I’m sure I’m not alone in my obsession with bags that cost more than my mortgage. After all, it doesn’t matter what size clothes you’re wearing. Or how expensive the clothes are. A good handbag can instantly turn an average outfit. Into an amazing outfit.

While some people choose to spend their spare cash on cars, holidays or their home. I choose to spend mine on handbags. But designer handbags don’t come cheap. Unfortunately. Which is why I wanted to share with you all how I afford luxury handbags and how you can too. Now while this might be an obvious point, I feel like I should point out that obviously, designer handbag purchases should only come after you’ve paid for your essentials. And they should only be an option if you can afford it. You don’t want to get in debt because of a handbag.

But now that’s out the way, let’s talk about bags! For me, my brand of choice has always been Mulberry. And it still is. Ever since I treated myself to my first Bayswater over 10 years ago, my heart still lies with this iconic British brand. And over the years my collection has grown. But as well as buying new bags, I’ve also sold some too. For me if I no longer love it, then I can be quite ruthless in selling it to buy something I really want. But how do I afford my designer handbag addiction?

SAVE, SAVE AND SAVE SOME MORE

Mulberry Small Amberley

Well for starters, I have to save for them. I’m not lucky enough to have a salary that allows me to blow thousands a month on designer bags. I wish I did! But I have bills to pay like everyone else. But when it comes to saving for a bag. I find it’s easier to save by having a separate savings account. I’m one of those people who have about four or five different savings. An account for house bits, an account for holidays, a rainy day account etc. By separating it all out, it’s easier to see how much you have for your bag. And how much more you need to put away for that dream purchase.

BUY SECOND HAND

Mulberry Lily

I can’t deny that it’s an amazing feeling walking into the shop to buy the bag you’ve been lusting after for months. There’s a great sense of accomplishment in picking and paying for it when you know you’ve been saving for it for months. But don’t rule out buying second hand. Not only are there some amazing second-hand websites out there. But it also means you’ll save yourself some money. As unless it’s a limited edition bag, most bags are cheaper to buy second-hand. I’d recommend looking at Vestiaire Collective, they check their products so you can be sure of its authenticity.

HIRE ONE

How I afford luxury handbags, and how you can too

If you can’t afford to buy designer handbags, but love the idea of owning one. Even if it’s only for a week or two. Then have a look at hiring them. This concept has become incredibly popular over the past couple of years. I tried it back in July and loved the idea! It was a chance to try a Chanel bag for a week to see if it’s a style I love. And here’s a spoiler – I know want my own to keep forever!

Do you love designer handbags as much as me? How do you afford yours?

I LOVE designer handbags – I just feel they make every outfit look fab! I’ve looked at Vestiaire Collective before and definitely wouldn’t rule out buying a second hand bag from there. I find designer outlets are a great place to shop to get good offers too x

I second the option of buying a second-hand handbag! I have actually bought quiet a few handbags through social media sites and love how they are in such a pristine condition!

Well I have learnt something new today! Bag hire! What a fabulous idea, especially if you want a super luxury bag for a specific event, it sounds like the perfect option.
Also I have separate accounts for luxuries like holidays, meals out, splurges and clothing. I find it much easier to save that way x

I love the concept of having different savings accounts for different savings goals, it just makes it so much simpler to not be tempted to reach into one pot for something you want. I have no qualms with getting my hands on good second hand and vintage items. Great tips!

i always sell one if I want to replace it – it takes away so much guilt – i really baby my bags so they usually sell for a good price – its the only way to justify paying so much.

I buy high street clothes, and splurge on bags and shoes when I can 🙂
