Two weeks today I will be on a plane heading to an exotic destination for a well-deserved break. It’ll be a chance for me to unwind, de-stress and most importantly, relax. But even though I’ll be away chilling by a pool and exploring a new country, I still want to keep my blog running while I’m away.
I know some bloggers don’t like to do this. For some they like to use their time away to really take a break from it all. Which is their choice. For me I like to ensure that just because I’m away, it doesn’t mean my blog stays silent for a week or two. I still like to have fresh content for you, my readers to enjoy.
So here are my top three tips on how to keep your blog running while on holiday:
Schedule posts
Just like I would do on a week by week basis, I try and I schedule posts to go live while I’m away. Now this does involve a little more work than usual and some great preparation and organisation skills. While I would normally spend most weekends writing and planning the content for the following week, to ensure I have enough posts for when I’m away I have to plan a little further in advance. Sometimes I only need to plan and produce four blog posts in advance, other times it could be 14. I try and start doing this as early as possible, but it does normally happen either the weekend before or in the evenings leading up to my travel date.
If you don’t have time to schedule all your posts before you leave, don’t panic. If your hotel has Wi-Fi then you can always finish what you need to while you’re away.
Guest bloggers
If you don’t have time to schedule in enough content for the week, then invite other bloggers to write guest posts on your site while you’re away. I’ve done this before and it’s a great way to introduce your blog to new readers. Plus it’s a great idea for diversifying your content on your blog and ensuring you have live content on your blog without any pre-stress of having to write it all yourself.
Get social
If you don’t fancy pre-planning and writing your content, or offering guest posts then you could always encourage your readers to follow you on your social media channels to keep up to date with your travels. You could use Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to share your experiences, your outfits and your holiday views rather than sharing them on the blog.
After all you normally get bursts of Wi-Fi in restaurants or in the hotel lobby so while you’ve got a few minutes you can share all the fun things you’ve been getting up to. This is perfect for those who don’t want to lose complete contact with the digital world, but still want to take a real break from blogging. Its also a good way to promote your social media channels to your readers and maybe even attract a few readers in the process.
So there you have, these have been my three tips on how to keep your blog running on holiday. How do you keep your blog running when you’re away?
