How to relax

How to relax

Naturally I’m quite an anxious person. I can fret, stress and worry about almost everything and at times it can be exhausting. But I know I’m not the only one who can feel like this. Which is why I thought I’d share with you all my top tips on how to relax:

Breathe

Now this might seem obvious. We need to breathe to survive, but when I’m feeling a little stressed, a few deep breathes can work wonders and instantly make me feel calmer and more relaxed.

Make a list

When things start to overwhelm me and I can feel my stress levels rising, I write down a list of everything I need to get done. And although the list can look endless, I find it helps to allocate a time frame against each point on the list. That way when I break it down although the list may look really long, the time it’ll take to get each task done is manageable.

Only worry about what you can control

This is easier said than done, but the majority of things I worry about are out of my control. When I do feel stressed and overwhelmed I just ask myself what I’m concerned about, and then if I have any control over it. Normally the answer is no, so I let it go. If the answer is yes, then I do what I can and move on.

Get some fresh air

Even if I just get the chance to go for a quick five minute walk, taking the time out away from the house and getting some fresh air helps me to relax and clear my head. I can focus on something other than my stress levels.

Take a moment for yourself

Whether you choose to take a bath, read a magazine or catch up on your favourite TV show, take some time each day to do something just for you. Not only does this help me to relax, but it also reminds me that it’s OK to do something for me.

I hope these tips have been useful, how do you relax?

Have a relaxing bath or reading a good book are some of my favourite ways to chill. Although I’m not very good at relaxing.
