Top 5 tips to get your exercising mojo back

It’s the middle of February which means if you’re anything like me then you’re six weeks into your New Year New You health kick. And doesn’t it suck! I decided that I wanted to join a gym to get healthy this year and although I’ve been going three times a week for the past six weeks, I’m starting to seriously lack motivation. It’s not as if I’m not seeing progress I am. I’m half way through the Couch to 5k app and am truly impressed that I’ve manage to get this far but I’ve really lost my exercising mojo over the past week or so. So if you’re like me then here are my top 5 tips to get your exercising mojo back.

Make a new playlist

I’ve been listening to the same songs on shuffle for the past six weeks and it’s getting a little boring. So I’ve recently made myself an upbeat playlist full of songs that make me want to get up and dance. And it’s definitely helped me get my exercising mojo back.

Get some new gym clothes

When I first joined the gym I didn’t let myself buy any new gym clothes. I’d joined a gym a few years back and bought a lot of new gym gear then that is still like new today. But buying yourself something new to exercise in is a great pick me up. In fact it’s amazing how motivating a new pair of leggings or even a new gym top can be.

Set a schedule

It’s unrealistic of me to commit to going to the gym five days a week. But I can commit to three days a week. And as the gym is on my way home from work I’ve set myself the goal of going three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This also works becasue the Couch to 5K app is split into three podcasts per week, so going three days a week fits in perfectly.

Switch it up

Although I stick to the Couch to 5K app during the week, for weekend’s I like to switch it up and head off to a Pilates class. The benefit of going to a class is that you can’t escape from them. Once you’re in there, you’re in and working for the next hour. They’re a great way to stay motivated and get your exercising mojo back.

Set realistic goals

My main goal at the moment is to run 5K at the end of the nine week programme. It would be far to daunting to have set myself the challenge of running 10k or longer because I just would have set myself up for failure. I find setting small and realistic goals keeps you motivated because you can achieve them.

Do you have any other tips on getting your exercising mojo back?

These are really good tips. I started the gym in November and find there are certain times of day that I go, so analyse when is best for you. I find first thing in the morning good, and then build exercise into your routine.
