Turning ideas into blog posts

If you’re anything like me then you’ll know that there really isn’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. Trying to juggle a full time job, family, friends and a boyfriend, plus writing a blog can often make turning ideas into blog posts a big challenge. But I know that if I follow these three steps I can turn my ideas into a reality when it comes to blogging

Brainstorming ideas

I find inspiration can come at any time of the day, but for me, I get most inspired at night. When I’m in bed trying to fall asleep and instead I’m planning future blog posts in my head. This is why I keep a notebook and pen on the bedside table. Otherwise come morning the idea will be forgotten. I also get a lot of inspiration from magazines, other blogs, general life and thinking of posts that I would want to read.

I keep all my ideas in the same notebook and every weekend go through my list of blog post ideas and pick the ones I want on the blog the following week. I then take the ideas and make notes on what will be included in the post and what pictures I need to take for it.

Take your pictures

This is probably my favourite part of the process. Although working full time and being restricted by limited daylight hours means that all my blog photography happens at the weekend. For me I find that the light is better in the early part of the morning, so this involves me getting up pretty early for a weekend to take all my pictures. This is why it helps that I’ve already planned what I want the pictures to look like. Once I’ve taken the pictures I then need to edit them and this really doesn’t take long at all. I’ve previous written a post on how to take better blog pictures and a post on how to edit blog pictures if you want to read more.

Write the post

This is the part that can be done anywhere really thanks to technology. I find that I can write a blog post during my morning commute, on my lunch break or in bed at night. Once it’s written I can then send myself the words via email and sit and edit the copy when I have a spare half hour before scheduling it to go live.

So these have been my tips for turning ideas into blog posts. I hope you’ve found this useful and let me know if you have any other tips for turning your ideas into blog post.

Fab tips. I’d agree with all those, though I often use the voice feature on my phone to tape ideas, rather than a notebook and pad. It’s quick and I can do it on the go. Another thing I do is always edit my copy at least an hour after I’ve written it. If you do it straight away, you’ll often read what you think is written down, not what is actually written down! This has happened to me so many times! Coming back to your work with a fresh pair of eyes can make all the difference :). Tx

Proof reading your work an hour later is a great tip. And one I should probably do more often x

Great tips, and I normally find making sure I have the pictures is my downfall!

I also like writing my blogpost random times throughout the day. Mostly whilst in my bed at night I get the most writing done on my phone.

So true! I also work best on the blog at night. But I also schedule how things have to go, and it works!
