10 things to see and do in Thailand

One of my all-time favourite places in the world has to be Thailand. Although I went just over four years ago, I still think about the place, the experiences and the amazing food! It really was a magical experience and one that I would love to recreate again. So if you’re thinking of seeing this beautiful country for yourself, here are my top 10 things to see and do in Thailand:

  • Experience Bangkok’s Floating Market. There really is nothing else like sitting in a rickety wooden boat, travelling along the river buying local produce. The smells, the colours, and the locals make this an experience you’ll never forget.
  • After some serious retail therapy, head over to Siam Paragon in Bangkok. It’s full of high end boutiques where you can spend some serious cash.
  • If you don’t fancy spending all your money on expensive clothes and shoes, then you can always head to one of the local markets that will have a host of local and beautiful goods you can buy.
  • Take a boat trip around the islands. With 5,000 miles of coastline just waiting to be explored, you can travel by long-tail boat and discover as many beaches and islands as possible.
  • Party the night away at the World Famous Full Moon party on Koh Toa. Whether you’re into raves or not, you have to visit the Island and enjoy a bucket cocktail while watching the fire eaters and other entertainment provided.
  • For breath-taking views of Phi Phi, you need to take the trek up to the Koh Phi Phi viewpoint. Go up right before sunset for the best views.
  • Visit Monkey Island! Located in Koh Phi Phi, Monkey Island is an experience you absolutely cannot miss – just don’t feed them!
  • Try the street food. It’s what the locals eat and some of it is incredibly delicious. I didn’t have the guts to try the fried crickets and scorpions but I loved the traditional Thai cuisine.
  • Visit Wat Pho (the reclining Buddha in Bangkok). This glorious gold Buddha is a sight to behold as are all their temples.
  • If you’re heading to Chiang Mai, then pay a visit to the Elephant Nature Park. It’s a rescue and rehabilitation centre for abused, elderly, and injured Asian elephants.

When I was there, we didn’t plan a lot of our hotels before we left. We had our first night booked and then decided to book hotels as we travelled around. It meant our travel plans could be pretty flexible. And as we were only in Thailand for a couple of weeks, we flew everywhere. I just didn’t have the time to sit on a bus for 24 hours, driving from one side of Thailand to another. It also wasn’t expensive either. For a lot of our internal flights, we flew with Go Air and I’d really recommend them.

Are you tempted enough to visit Thailand?

Hi Stephanie, quick question. Is Thailand a safe-ish (I say ish as well no where is safe at the moment) place to visit? I’m asking as there have been recent tourist troubles and curfew in place.

I never felt unsafe in Thailand. Like most places, even though you’re abroad you’ve got to be wary not to put yourself in dangerous situations x

Yes! Love your post. I love Thailand, such a beautiful country filled with so much beautiful and lovely things to do. Next time you are there, you should check out the Nan Province in North Thailand. It’s beautiful and has so much history.

    Thank you for sharing!
