Food and drink spots not to be missed in Fife

Food and drink spots not to be missed in Fife

Happy Bank Holiday Monday everyone. Now I’m sure it’s not escaped you all that a couple of weeks back I was lucky enough to spend a pretty unforgettable weekend up in Fife. I was there with Welcome To Fife and some lovely bloggers for the Feast of Fife 2018. And what a feast it was! We got to visit some incredible places, eat some amazing and make some pretty unforgettable memories. So if you’re thinking of heading up to Fife (and you definitely should!), here are just some of the food and drink spots not to be missed in Fife.

FOOD

The whole theme of the weekend was food, and while we got to experience some amazing food, here are just three of my favourite food spots not to be missed if you’re heading to Fife.

THE NEWPORT

Now this is the restaurant we visited for lunch on day one, and what a place! It’s run by former Masterchef the Professionals winner Jamie Scott, and not only does it boast gorgeous views of the River Tay. But it also boats a diverse and delicious menu, as Jamie and his team work hard to infuse unusual ingredients together, while also making the most of the amazing local produce in the area.

We were treated to some of the dishes featured on their tasting menu, and their small dishes menu. And I’m not sure my words will be able to describe just how delicious the food was! From mini pastry cases filled with the creamiest of cream cheese topped with fresh peas, to the most delicate and tender ox check with artichoke done three ways. The food was an absolute palate pleaser, and somewhere I can’t wait to come back and visit. You can find out more about the restaurant here.

BOWHOUSE FARMERS MARKET

Food and drink spots not to be missed in Fife

Located just a couple hundred miles away from our Catch Penny Safari Lodges, the Bowhouse Farmers Market is a foodie dream. Home to so many amazing producers and makes, the market is also home to local food trucks and live music. it’s the kind of place that you could spend the whole day exploring the different stalls, eating the amazing food and just enjoying the weekend with your friends or family. What more do you want from a local farmer’s market?

My personal recommendations include the spicy chorizo sausages from Minick Butchers, a sea salt caramel brownie and a classic beef burger from the Blackhorn food truck. I just wish I had more space in my luggage to bring back even more treats!

THE NOSEBAG AT CAMBO ESTATE

One the final places that we got to experience on the trip was the beautiful grounds of Cambo Estate and their stunning walled garden. Which are well worth a visit. As is their cafe in the converted stables – the Nosebag cafe.

We were lucky enough to watch a cooking demonstration from our foodie tour guide Christopher Trotter. Followed by a lovely home-made meal from the couple who run the cafe. Where I got to try for the first time a stovie. And was pleasantly surprised with how flavoursome and moreish it was! You can find out more about the Cambo Estate here.

DRINK

Now, time to move onto drink. And with Scotland being the home of spirits, it would have been rude to not have visited at least one distillery, right? Well, we did one better. We got to visit two very different, but equally intriguing distilleries.

LINDORS ABBEY DISTILLERY

Food and drink spots not to be missed in Fife

This is the first distillery we had the pleasure of visiting, and having never been to a distillery before. I had little idea of what to expect. But I have to say, it blew away all expectations! I had no idea about the history of the abbey, or the importance the site played in producing whiskey over the years. And found myself really enjoying the tour of the distillery and learning more about the history of the abbey.

Following the tour, we got to head into the Apothecary where we learned more about Aqua Vitae as a spirit. And had a chance to create our own using our blend of herbs and spices with added extras including lavender, cloves  or even espresso. You can find out more about Lindors Abbey Distillery here.

TAYPORT DISTILLERY

Food and drink spots not to be missed in Fife

Despite this distillery looking and feeling miles apart from Lindors. It was such a great opportunity to meet the creator of Never 25 – Kecia. Now Never 25 is not a whiskey, it’s not a gin, but it’s a Eau De Vie. And it’s lovely! With the sweetest back story, this is a real family business. And what’s more the flavours of their Eau De Vie’s are amazing. All made using locally sourced fruit, the spirit is intensely smooth with a natural fruit flavour. And what’s more, they work really well with just a simple tonic, or as a base in a cocktail. You can find out more about Never 25 here.
