My post lockdown bucket list

My post lockdown bucket list

Now I don’t know about you, but lockdown has been tough. It’s tough not physically seeing friends or family. Obviously I’ve seen them over Zoom, Skype, HouseParty, Teams, BlueJeans and every other video conferencing facility. But it’s just not the same. It’s tough having all your exciting plans being either cancelled or put on hold. And it’s tough not knowing when it’ll end. But here’s the thing. It will end at some point. And when it does, I’ll be here and ready with my post lockdown bucket list.

I know my experience is not nearly as tough as those who are working on the front line risking their health and their family’s health. But that doesn’t take away the fact that this whole lockdown period is tough to deal with it. I miss seeing my mum. I miss the fact that I haven’t been able to hug anyone for months. And I miss just the everyday mundane things that we all took for granted.

We literally went from living our usual best lives one minute to suddenly having to live by new rules. Rules that haven’t always been that clear. And rules that have taken some time to adjust to. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt from this, it’s that what is truly important are the people we surround ourselves with. Life is far too short and lockdown is just proving that. Which is why I plan on celebrating and making the most of that time with my post lockdown bucket list. Which includes:

SEEING FRIENDS AND FAMILY

This goes without saying that one of the biggest things we’ve all missed in lockdown are our friends and family. I’ve definitely missed mine. I miss not seeing them for weekend meals at our favourite pub. I miss not seeing them for a cheeky Indian throughout the week. And I really miss not being able to sit in a pub bear garden and enjoy a G&T or two in the sunshine.

MAKING PLANS

As a planner, I do love nothing more than having a full diary. And despite the fact that 2020 was going to be a year full of travel plan. I’m still holding out hope that I’ll have a full diary again soon. I’ve had a spa day, a hen do, two bottomless brunches, two holidays, a day out at the beach and a Killers gig all cancelled so far. So I really can’t wait for the moment when lockdown is lifted and I can start making plans again.

GOING AWAY

Like most people I’ve had at least one holiday cancelled. I made such a big thing about 2020 being my year of travel. I had six breaks planned. SIX! Now admittedly I did get to take two of them – Norway and Portugal. But Florence has been moved to next year. My other Italy trip has been cancelled. And it’s not looking likely that France will happen in July. So it’s safe to say once lockdown is lifted I’d love to be on a plane to some exotic destination. Even if that doesn’t happen, I’d still love to get away in this country and explore some of the beautiful sites we have in the UK.

EATING OUT

Now even before lockdown begun, I used to eat out once or twice a week. As someone who lives alone. Eating out was a way to socialise and see my friends or family. Plus who doesn’t love getting to pick what they want to eat from a menu. Rather than having to cook every night. The novelty of cooking for myself has definitely worn off now! It’s so nice that some of my favourite local places have opened up for takeaways. But I still can’t wait to sit back in a restaurant or pub and eat a meal with those closest to me.

DAYS OUT

Now I’ve already had one day out cancelled – that was to Brighton back at the start of May. But I love having little days out with friends or family. And seeing as I’ve not left my hometown for months now, I really can’t wait to leave my hometown and spend the day somewhere more exciting. Whether that’s in Brighton as planned. Or whether I’ll head into London to explore one of my favourite places.

So these are my post lockdown bucked list of things I really can’t wait to do. But one of the things that I’ll take with me from lockdown and bring back into my normal life is trying to get a work life balance. While there has been no life going on while I’ve been working from home. It would be nice once we return to normal to be able to get out everyday for exercise. And to not have to commute five days a week when I don’t need to. Oh and continuing to take care of my skin would be a bonus too!
