What blogging means to me

*This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link!*

Back in December 2012 I decided to take the plunge and set up this little space on the internet. A little space that started because of my love of writing, beauty and photography. A space that is now still quite little in comparisons to others. But one that I’ve seen grow and develop over the years as more and more people have taken notice of my blog. And I’d like to think that it’s my passion for writing, beauty and photography that continue to drive the content for this blog. So what does blogging mean to me?

Well it means everything really. This is still my hobby and side hustle. Yes it’s lovely to earn some extra money doing this. But it’s not the reason I do this. I’m not at a stage where I could do this full time. And I’m not sure I want to. I love blogging as much as I do because it’s a hobby. I choose what I want to write about, and when to post. If I don’t post on a Wednesday it’s no big deal. My  readers might miss out on a new piece of content but it’s not the end of the world.

I’m not sure if the passion would still be there if I had to rely on this as sole source of income. And I wonder if I would have to compromise on the content in order to pay the bills. Plus it doesn’t matter how amazing a job is. It’s still a job and there will be days when you don’t want to work. Which is why I honestly think this could be the best hobby in the world. I’ve learned skills through my blog that have lead me to a career change. I’ve seen my creative, photography and writing skills strengthen over the past four years. And my love of beauty is still there. In fact I’m not sure how but I love beauty now more than ever.

And as my blog has grown over the past four years, so have I. What started as a strictly beauty blog (the early posts are worth a read if you’re in need of a giggle). Has now turned into a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog that encompasses all the thing I love. You’ll find fashion, travel and food posts amongst the traditional beauty, hair and nail reviews I’ve always done. And I honestly couldn’t be happier with where my blog is at the moment. I have high hopes, drive and determination that this blog will only go from strength to strength over the coming years.

If you’re a blogger, what does blogging mean to you? If you’re not, what’s your biggest passion in life?

As always thank you to Kaye for taking these pictures!

Lovely post Stephanie! I’ve never really thought of blogging full time compromising content. Blogging means I have a little escape in the evenings and something that I’ve made from start to finish x

Blogging means me being able to share knowledge and experience with others to be a little greener. Like you, mine is a hobby and I don’t think I’ll ever earn full-time from it as I feel it would spoil it.

I think it is lovely when you have a blog that reflect you well. That is how a blog should be in my opinion.

I used to write blog posts, but life got too hectic. Only recently have I entered back in to the blog world via my friend, whom I do VA for. I love reading all the different blog posts while doing comment shares, and I often bookmark pages to come back to. Blogging can be a great way to sharing, passing on wise words and info and for simply being you. Keep up the good work!

Isn’t it crazy how blogging changes from one niches into a whole bundle of different subjects?! 🙂

Like Rhiannon above, I use blogging as a bit of an escape after work, when I need to unwind – it’s a chance to be creative too! x

I originally started my blog as a way to express my views on the industry I work in, and also to learn more about said industry… However, that then evolved into more of a focus on my life as a Dad as what I wanted to share changed… It really is a way for me to just voice things I want to say…

I totally agree, I love blogging but I fear if I ever made the leap into full time blogging it wouldn’t have the same sparkle anymore. Jo x

I agree, blogging is a wonderful job to have, I always work full time but I do want to blog full time. I struggle with rent as it is so I am not at that stage to solely rely on my blog either x

I can hand on heart agree with you. I love blogging as a hobby as I don’t have to rely on it for income or as a job, if I had to I think my love wouldn’t be as strong x

Blogging is my passion, I love sharing my experiences and it somehow acts as a journal. I love it more when I receive heartwarming messages or comments about what they read on my blog. I’m sure it feels the same for you. Let wish for more blogging years and cheers to us!

What a lovely post I wrote something like this just 2 days back! Blogging has made me evolve as a completely new person! I have taken up blogging as a full time job but because my husband likes to take care of the bills, i dont mind earning a side pocket money for myself and save for emergencies!

I loved reading this! My blog is only 2 years old, but I love it. I love the process of writing, and the organisation of it. I am passionate about it, but I do treat it like a hobby and not my life. I hope you still continue to grow and love it in even more years to come

This was a lovely post and it really got me thinking. My blog has changed over the years too. What got me started was the love of sharing crazy stuff I’d found online, and it’s now a mish mash of things I enjoy doing/reading/listening to. I love that it’s a job or a hobby that grows with you 🙂

My blog started out as a hobby and I am so lucky to be able to earn from it. I still love blogging but the ‘work’ side of it does make it less enjoyable sometimes.

I think the best part of blogging is being your own editor and boss, deciding for yourself what and when to write about.
