Lockdown love diaries part four

And we’re back for the final instalment of the Lockdown love diaries. Well, for now anyway. If you want to read parts one, two and three, first then please do. Now let’s get cracking with this woeful tale. So, unlike the others, this one doesn’t start on Tinder. Oh no, my friends. This one starts on Bumble.

I usually find that the calibre of guys is slightly better on Bumble. In my experience, the guys on there tend to be more serious about having a relationship. But then, as it’s women who have to make the first move to initiate a conversation. I do also find that it’s full of men who struggle to string more than a couple of words together. Am I right ladies?

But anyway, let’s rewind to October. I match with this guy who is the same age. Doesn’t live too far away. Is well travelled from his profile and seems like he could string more than a couple of words together. Let’s call him Aaron.

Now one of the first things to note about Aaron, is that he loves a voice note. Being dyslexic he’s not a fan of writing, so prefers to send two to three minute voice notes. Now this isn’t a problem. It’s slightly unusual, but not a problem.

So we arrange to have a first date, which goes well. It was meant to be just drinks and then drinks turn into dinner before we’re being chucked out of the pub before the 10pm curfew.

We quickly arrange a second date, which is a walk. Because it’s 2020 and that what dating is like today. The walk goes well, we chat some more. Seem to have a lot in common and get on.

And then it comes to our third date… He wants to arrange a surprise. I hate surprises. He arranges to pick me up and then doesn’t tell me where we’re going for dinner. He lets me guess. I really hate these type of games. Anyway we’re driving a particular way into a village just outside of the town I live in. So I say, without thinking, oh we’re not going to Pub A are we? He asks why? And I say because I’ve never had a good experience there.

Guess what, we are going to Pub A because he knows the chef and apparently the food is great. Anyway, we get there. He asks about the chef. Turns out the chef left five years ago… and we proceed to have a really underwhelming meal. I’d like to say the date was salvaged by the fact that the conversation was great, but it wasn’t.

He decides that this is the time to brag about himself. He shows me the house he grew up in (but has now been sold), proceeds to tell me how much he earns (I really don’t care, but it’s also less than what I earn), and then tells me how hard it is for him to do online dating as he’s such a catch. Yep, ladies and gentlemen, he really used those words.

Well, I’m sure it won’t surprise many of you to know that after that date we didn’t see each other again. It was a mutual ghosting, where I didn’t message him and he didn’t message me. I’m guessing he found someone who appreciated how much of a catch he really was…
