3 easy steps to creating an awesome about me page

Now I don’t know about you. But when I discover a new blog I want to know more about the person behind the blog. Maybe it’s because I’m nosey. Or maybe it’s because as a fellow blogger, I’m keen to know who is behind the beautiful blog I’ve just discovered. Either way, having an about you page on your blog is vital. But if you’re not sure where to begin. Then here are my three easy steps to creating an awesome about me page.

TELL US WHO YOU ARE

Now the single most important part of an about me page is actually telling people about you. So tell them. Start with a headline that tells your audience who you are and what you blog about. It might seem a little cringe to try and sell yourself. But that’s exactly what you’re doing. You’re letting your audience know who you are. And giving them a chance to connect with you on a deeper level. Plus it gives brands an indication of whether you’re their perfect partner. If you’re struggling with this step, here is what mine says…

Hey, I’m Steph, a 30-something lifestyle blogger from Hertfordshire who is travelling through my thirties attempting to learn how to adult and live my life in the happiest, most successful way possible.

After your headline introduction, let your audience know how and why you started your blog. Was it to bring together your passion? Is it because you want to share the best travel destinations/recipes/mid-size fashion? Or is it document your life as a mum? Whatever it is, let your audience know what to expect from you. Mine is below…

I started this blog almost eight years ago as a way to bring together my two passions for writing and photography. What initially started as a beauty blog. Has evolved and changed over the years, into a lifestyle blog that now focuses on blogging and digital marketing tips, ways to make your money work for you and some lifestyle content thrown in for good measure.

WHAT DO YOU OFFER YOUR AUDIENCE?

The second step in creating an awesome about me page is letting your audience know why you’re an authoritative figure in your niche. And why they should keep returning to your blog for your expertise and advice. Is it because you’ve been vegan for 10 years and know the best vegan recipes and restaurants? Or is it because you’re a plus-size woman who enjoys shopping and fashion. And wants to share her latest outfit photos on the blog? If you want some inspiration mine is below…

I’ve spent the past ten plus years working in the world of digital marketing for a variety of consumer and business brands. Creating content strategies that translated into sales, running social media campaigns that reached millions of people, and learning everything I could about the best way to market a product in this digital world. But I also spent a large chunk of that time in debt. £20,000 in debt to be precise. You can read the long story here.

But the short story is that in less than five years, I’m debt-free, a single homeowner, and focused on making my money work harder for me while living my happiest, best life.

Spending 10 years working in the world of digital marketing makes me an expert on explaining blogger to blogger what certain digital jargon is. And successfully clearing £20,000 worth of debt has given the experience to talk to other people about money.

WHERE CAN YOUR AUDIENCE FIND YOU?

So the final part in creating an awesome about me page includes letting your audience know where to find you. They know who you are and what you blog about. They know why you’re an expert in your niche and why they should come back to read more. So what they need to know now is where to find you. As I talk about three different topics. I’ve chosen to break that down into a consistent schedule that my audience can find on my about me page.

Every Monday I post my digital marketing and blogging tips. If you’re not sure about SEO. Clueless about Google Analytics. And just don’t know where to begin with keyword research. Then these posts are for you. I’ve used my decade-plus experience of the industry to break down the jargon and explain blogger to blogger what these things mean, why they’re important and how to actually do them. So if you want to know what you need in your blogging tool kit and the easiest way to start a blog or the best way to use Google Search Console to grow your blog and seven SEO mistakes bloggers are making then come back every Monday.

Every Wednesday you’ll find a lifestyle post from me. I’ve spent the past eight years writing about all things beauty, fashion, interior, travel and food-related topics and I’m not about to stop now. So here is where you’ll find the latest designer handbag I’ve added to my collection and what beauty products I’m investing in or my favourite gin cocktails and how to stay organised when you’re super busy.

And finally, every Friday is Finance Friday, where I post my money tips. If you want to know how to budget while still living, the best way to organise your finances or easy ways to make money right now, then these are the post for you. I cover everything from how I budget my £50,000 a year salary and how I got myself out of £20,000 worth of debt to how I organise my finances and easy ways to make money right now.

I find that separating it out for my audience helps them know which days they want to pop back for the latest content. Don’t forget to add in how your audience or brand can contact you. And include links to your social media channels too.

So those are my three easy steps in creating an awesome about me page. I hope this has been of use. If you want to see my full about me page – it’s right here. And leave me your links in the comments for me to check out your awesome about me pages.
